That would just add excess weight.

Barrel doughnut too?

ctsmith,

Are you going with the new recoil lug idea? I saw one the other day. A recoil lug pinned to the action having a projection out the top. The projection was vertically split on the centerline of the bore. There is a screw that can pull the two sides together to squeeze on the barrel. You screw the barrel in hand tight and then tighten the screw in the recoil lug to 30 in lb. The value of this is one can switch out the barrel without action wrench and barrel vice.

Looks like the Red Raider Express to me. Red cerakote the barrel......I double dog dare you.

Black barrel would do nicely, but stainless would be fine too. Given your choice of clambering, 'smith and components, I'm thinking a home run is inevitable.

Will the bottom metal also take AI mags? If so, you gotta try a Magpul Pmag. Butter smooth...

Howa you make go off?
Posted By: ctsmith Re: New rig in process - 06/29/17
No bugnut on first go around. I want it pillar bedded and the bottom metal and magazine fit so it will be chambered traditionally at the same time. The action is a Bighorn TL3 with intergral lug and there will be no bedding forward of the lug with intentions of future barrel swaps and Bug Nut. The stock will also be slightly opened up for the bugnut by the smith (Jon Beanland).

The AW mag is staggered with a 10 round capacity (only offered in 10 round) and has a .090" longer COAL than the single stack AI mag, 2.980" vs 2.890". Jon is going to cut it to 5 round capacity at which point it will barely protrude out of the bottom metal. Pretty slick setup. Any problems you've heard from AW's not functioning correctly is due to improper fit. Jon loves them and the guys at Bighorn love them. Its what both recommended.

To run AW mags the action has to be cut for them. You can still run AI mags with AW cut but not vice versa. The Seekins bottom metal will accept both AI and AW. So yes, I can run the plastic magpul AI's if so desired.

JG, red? You might be on to something.

Highbeam, I knew I was forgetting something!

Here's a pic of the AW mag modified to 5 rounds in the same Seekins BM. Jon shoots competitively and this is his match gun setup.
