What's an invar pillar,and are these stocks as stiff as one would expect in a high quality carbon composite?

My understanding is that the pillar is made of Invar, a nickel/iron alloy known for its uniquely low coefficient of thermal expansion. And yes, from my experience, the stock is quite stiff.

I sure do seem to see a lot of used christenson arms rifles for sale. I had one and had many problems with it. Was not too happy with their CS. Sent it down the road and got a cooper. Maybe others can chime in

If I were going to add a Christensen long range rifle to occupy the safe, it likely wouldn't be this particular Mesa. Listed rifle weight for the long action shows 9.9 lbs while the Ridgeline long action lists at 6.8 lbs. Depending on the style of hunt, a 3.1 lb increase of rifle weight can and will make a big difference for many for field use.

I'd spend the extra $400 and get the Ridgeline.

It looks great and will more than likely shoot great as well. Although it can be used as a hunting rig, more a bench rifle than a hunting rifle imo.

The reason the long action is 10 pounds before scope, sling, bipod, and ammo pouch are added, is that Palma taper barrel.

With a Douglas scale #3 taper and no noisy recoil compensator, that rifle would be better than I can build for that money.,.. and it would be 10 pounds with the accessories.

LGS received a Mesa LR in 300 Win Mag yesterday. Got a chance to handle/fondle it. It's heavy, but not overly, considering the medium palma barrel contour. The muzzle break is removable, but you have to look HARD to see the seam where the brake meets the barrel. Stock is decent, though I'd prefer a McM Game "series" stock. The Pistol grip is vertical with a palm swell. Palm swell is not quite on the order of magnitude that a H.S Precision presents. Comb is adjustable and height adjustment can be maintained by inserting a spacer. The spacer is the full length of the comb cut-out. Not sure how many spacers come with but others can be had or made. The forend is wide and will right bags or a rest well. Interestingly enough there is a small 'cut-out' or indentation about the width of the rabbit ears on a bench rest, in the forend about 4" back from the end.

Lots of things to like about this rifle. I can put a rifle with the Christensen features together for the $1599 MSRP. I have my name on the first Mesa LR 6.5CM that comes in.

They mount flush cups in that flat on thier other models.

I've had two, a 300wsm and a 7wsm, though its been several years now. Each was an excellent rifle. Accurate with good fit/finish. I thought the carbon barrel was a bit of an expensive gimmick, but it did look cool. I've handled the Mesa in a gun shop or two and they sure seem like a good value if the quality is as good as the one's I've had.
