Hey guys, I just got me a Winchester model 70 coyote lite in a 270 WSM. I have 2 bullets I am wanting to load an try. 1st is the hornady 145 eld-X an the 2nd is the Barnes 129 LRX bullet. I would appreciate any experience with these 2 bullets or experience with another long range hunting bullet, Lookkng for kills shots out to 500 yards. My last 2 bucks was shot at 396 an 375 yards with the hornady 143 eld-x out of my 264 win mag.. I love the 264 but wanna experiment with the 270wsm some.
I shoot 140 Accubonds in my 270 WSM and 270 wby’s. Great bullet, hammers deer, pigs and Aoudads.
The BC on the Nosler 150 gr. LR Accubond looks good. I would try that with some RL 26. I plan to try that combo in a std. 270 Win
Thanks!! I think the .277 caliber is coming around with some better bullets that different companies are making now
Jeremy,

I've killed 6 or 7 deer with the 140 Berger VLD out of a .270 WCF @ 2,980 fps out to 280 yards. They worked very, very well.
145 Eldx put a mid-sized muley down in his tracks at 250ish with my .270 Win this year. Exit was golf-ball sized fwtw.

The other LR bullet I’d look at is the 140 Berger Classic hunter.

Former has a .531 BC, and the latter a .528 BC.

Sounds good, I have been wanting to try those 145's in my 270 Win but after hearing of the erratic performance in other calibres I have hesitated. Might have to give them a go soon. Going to try the 150 gr ABLR's too.
150 Berger!
Thanks Higbean!! Any help is appreciated
150 VLD works very well from the WSM especially with H1000.

The 170gr EOL is what I'm looking at building my next rifle around. Probably a 27 Nosler or 27/300WIN.
I read on another post where a guy was using 130 Barnes an RL17 an was getting 3420 fps out of that load
I used a 150 LRAB @ 3050fps via 270Win (1:8 Lilja bbl Kimber 84L Montana @ 22") this fall on a whitetail @ 534yds. Got both shoulders and the spine. Exit on the off-side shoulder was ~ping-pong ball sized.

Used the same bullet/load/rifle on a bull elk @ 150yds in early Nov. The elk was quartered hard towards me and steeply downhill, my heart-beat lifted the rifle a tad as the elk dropped his head to take a step up. All of this happened in an instant and the result was I saw the crosshairs on the jaw when the trigger broke The bullet entered about 2" above that and took out 3 neck vertebrae before coming to rest under the off-side hide. The elk didn't even get a chance to exhale as the lungs were still inflated when I cut away the diaphragm. The bullet weighs 55gn now for 37% retention. That's not a stellar number on the surface, however, given the impact velocity and amount of bone it destroyed I find it acceptable. There was no core/jacket separation of the remaining slug and the main portion not counting the flared out jacket sections is ~1/2" wide.

So, in my vast experience of 2 critters killed (grin), the 150LRAB seems to work as one would think it should. FWIW, I shot the rifle/load to 600yds on steel pre-season and it seemed to follow the ballistics table I had printed out reasonably well, as well as I'm able to shoot @ that distance anyway.
+1 for hanco's comments.

Nosler Accubonds in 140gr have been excellent in my 270 Wby (loaded at just under 3000fps). example: desert bighorn ewe, 1 shot at 547 yards. consistently accurate in my rig.

I've also shot 140gr Barnes TSX (not TTSX) with good accuracy and excellent kill results in my 270 Wby (1-shot deer kills at 260, 280, 370, and 408 yds), but I have seen markedly better accuracy with the 140gr Accubonds compared to 140gr TSX when practicing beyond 400 yds.

Nosler BT and E-tips and Barnes TTSX in 130gr also shoot accurately in my 270 Wby and 270 win, but of course have a lower BC and so I don't use 130gr in my 270 Wby.

FWIW, I would also take a look at Ballistic Studies' webpage regarding 270 WSM:
https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/.270+Winchester+Short+Magnum.html?__utma=1.418551052.1511900138.1511900138.1511900138.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1511900138&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1511900138.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none)&__utmv=-&__utmk=190358187

good luck with dialing in your loads.
The longest Berger it will shoot. As fast as it will shoot it.
I would like to try the Federal vital shok in the trophy bonded 130's heard good reviews on that factory load
I shot both federal premium 130's over the weekend accubond an the trophy bonded both loads produced around 1 1/2 inch groups!! Not happy at all with the way the model 70 coyote lite is preforming
I hit a pig at 260 yards with my 270 WSM. The 140 Accubond went through both shoulders. He was dead before he hit the ground. That would be the first bullet I would try.

The 130 Trophy Bonded might be worth a try. The old Jack Carter Bear Claw made better.
I’d think the Berger 170 EOL would be great bullet in the WSM

The OP has a Winchester M70 coyote and I suspect it is a 1/10 twist and that wont stabilize the 170 Berger
140gr Accubond.
I have some different bullets to try in reloading soon as Christmas is over. 129 LRX, 140 accubond, 145eldx
Since you're only talking 500 yards you can pretty much use whatever you want. 130 grain NBTs and Accubonds, or 140 Accubonds are about as good as anything. I'm using the 130 Ballistic tips out to 700. 150 LR Accubonds are awesome if you can get them to shoot.
I've been shooting the 129 gr lrx out of my 270 wsm with great success. I have never had a need to shoot long range on game but they are incredibly accurate out to 500 yards (farthest I've ever had the opportunity to shoot on paper). The most important part is they perform very well on game. Just this past year I shot two whitetail and a coyote and nothing so much as twitched. I'm using 65 grains of H4831SC, which puts them a just shy of 3400 fps. The one buck I shot was quartered away (practically facing away from me) so I put the bullet a few inches behind the shoulder and the exit hole was just below the base of the skull on the neck opposite of where the bullet went in. So far penetration and expansion have been great with this bullet.
can't help you on specific factory ammo, but I have had two 270 WSMs that I handloaded for.

The two bullets I liked the best with it were the 140 Accubond and 140 Barnes TSX (now I would use the TTSX though).

I killed bull elk with both of those bullets from that cartridge, and had zero problems.

I really liked the cartridge, and had a lot of confidence in it in the field.

My issue with the 270 WSM is that it is pretty overbore, and torches throats pretty quickly if you shoot a lot. Since you will be running factory ammo though you likely won't shoot the volume of rounds, unless you are made of money . Quality WSM ammo ain't cheap.

If you want to go over 140grains, I would recommend going up to a 7mm or 30.
I use 140 Accubonds in my 270 Weatherby also. Hammers dear and pigs.
Plain old 150 Partitions don’t stink with RL26 out to 500. The 140 Accubonds Or 150 ABLRs are pretty danged good as well. Great cartridge.
out to 500 I don't think it matters much. shoot what that barrel likes best then dial it in. I've had great success out to 600 with 140 vld.
If it’s hunting and only out to 500 yards, use the LRX or TTSX, whichever shoots best. No other bullet will outperform them on game.
