What kind of triggers do you guys replace your factory 700 triggers with? I bought a 700 LR in 7mm Remington before the holidays, am in the process of bedding it now, have a Leupold VX3i 8.5-25x50 to mount on it once the bedding is done. This is my first real “long range” rifle, will probably do a lot more target shooting than hunting with it. I’ve been looking at Timney’s, but didn’t know if there was much of an advantage to spending more on the trigger. I weighed the factory trigger and it was set at 4 3/4 pounds from the factory.

Rifle Basix is hard to beat. Some Rem factory triggers can be adjusted very nicely but more often than not I'll end up replacing them.

I put a Timney Calvin elite in my Rem 700 25-06. There was a significant change in feel (in a good way) of the Timney, compared to the factory trigger. The clean, clear break provided a small improvement in the accuracy of the rifle which was pretty accurate to begin with.

I like Timney and Trigger Tech.


For the money, I dont know if you can beat Trigger Tech.

Timney CE and TT are my aftermarket triggers of choice.

I like the skinny Timneys. But everyone seems to like the trigger techs as well, I've just been too lazy to try one.

Have Timney's on nearly all my rifles. Put a Triggertech on my Remington and would put them on all my others if they made one to fit them.

This is the right answer. My brother and I have put three between us on our Stillers after previously using tuned factory efforts or Timneys. Trigger Techs are the future.

Target guns get Jewel, hunting guns get Timney.

Really? I was not expecting Trigger Tech to be the most recommended trigger at all. I was between Timney and Jewell- I was really leaning towards Jewell but my thrifty side said how much better can that be than a Timney at 1.5-2 pounds?

The little research I have done on the Trigger Tech system seems that they don’t come from the factory tuned to the weight you desire. But there is only one set screw to adjust and it’s for pull weight? They’re safe enough to go to 1.5-2 pounds for a rifle that might be used for hunting? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question but I’ve only dealt with factory Remington triggers up to this point.

I see that I am out of the loop! I had never heard of Trigger Tech. Since the prices have come up on the other brands, I guess $150 isn't out of line for a Remington replacement trigger by Trigger Tech.

I have had or currently have the following: Rifle Basix, Timney, Jewell, Canjar. I have had many Rifle Basix triggers for Remington 700 and Savage Axis. For the Savage, I think the Timney is just a bit better. Reading reviews of the Trigger Tech on the Brownell's website, I see some folks have had problems getting the bolt release to work properly when installing a Trigger Tech. I have never had that problem with Rifle Basix or Timney. I still have two of the now discontinued Canjar single-set triggers on my rifles. One is on a Sako Vixen and the other on a Remington 700.

Regarding Jewell triggers, I was very impressed with the one I owned. It came with different weight of pull springs and was beautifully made.

Unfortunately, they are £170 by the time they get over here.

I've always put Jewell in my 700/clones. However I recently got a Trigger-Tech Diamond, it is great. No creep, breaks very clean, and adjusting pull weight is simple and easy.

Jewell guy here. I know a lot of guys don’t like them as much over 1 pound for a hunting trigger but I have a hard time going back after shooting them. 1 pound on my varmint rigs and 1.5 or 2 pounds on my hunting rifles.

I used to love Timney but after winning a Huber Concepts trigger at a match in September I have begun to replace all my triggers with Huber 2-stage.

Jewell and Timney Calvin Elite are my go to triggers ,,,,,,, Trigger Tech does have some good reviews and may be on the list to try.
Christensen Arms runs the Trigger Techs on there rifles now such as the Ridgelines, ELR, Mesa Etc. so you can handle one which I did and was really impressed, but time will tell on
how reliable they are.

Jewel and Trigger Tech, sort of depending on use.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying (or even trying) a ton of the trigger techs when they were new and cheap. I had to wait until I got one in a rifle swap to find out that I'd missed the boat badly.

The early ones were all recalled for rollers that were cracking, they changed them to stainless now. That’s one of the reasons I’m not keen on jumping on the newest & greatest bandwagon, I’d rather let someone else do the product testing. I’m having a rifle built now with a triggertech special but I wouldn't have been happy if I had to pull several rifles apart to return the triggers even if they were cheap.

You can get it in varying ranges for unset and set pull weights.

I put one on my 700 Mountain Rifle in .30-06 and absolutely love it.

Even unset, the break is crisp as the proverbial glass rod, no perceptible creep and very little overtravel.

Mine is set for 2.5# unset and 8oz set. I only use the set for target work and long range work where I have a stable shooting platform.
