Long Range 270 Win - anyone try Nosler's 150 gr Accubond LR?

Thinking if my new to me Fieldcraft likes the 150 gr AB LR it will be my Elk medicine this year!

No, but JB did a piece a couple years back about the .270 in the era of the Creedmoor. With that slug and RL26, it did very well to at least 500 yards, which is long range to me. No fast twist required.

Some have said that bullet is too soft up close, but I don't know if that was, or is still true.

I used a 22"bbl'd 270Win/150 ABLR for a whitetail @ 75yds. A bull elk @ 125yds, and a second whitetail @ 535yds. Kimber MT w/Lilja 1/8" twist in factory taper. 4.5-14x40 Leupold w/M-1 elevation and fine duplex. 6.8# all-up.

R-26 moves them @ 3050fps.

1st was the elk. Quartering hard towards and sharply downhill. He dipped his head as I shot and instead of catching him just inside the onside shoulder, the bullet went in just behind the ear, shattered 3 vertebrae, and I found the slug halfway down the neck. 55gn retained weight. Core and jacket were very well connected. Elk never took a step, immediate lights out.

Deer @ 75yds was trotting and I still can't quite figure how the bullet did what it did. He was broadside, I was tracking him on the leading edge low in the body. The bullet went in between the ears and out under the eye. Deer face planted and didn't even wiggle. While the placement is certainly confounding, it's not the bullet's fault.

The 535 yd deer was fairly anti-climactic. Deer standing facing into the wind. Wind full value 7-10mph. Prone over a pack, Dialed for 550, took a leading edge lower 1/3 of the body hold. Bullet drifted to just behind the on-side shoulder exited through the off-side scapula. No-steps, immediately down.

What is your load??

I took my favorite 270 Winchester to the range Saturday. I had loaded some R26 with 150 grain LR Accubonds. I started with 59 grains and increased by .5 grain until I reached 61.5 grains. I was only interested in pressure signs when I started. I loaded 5 of each. I shot 3 of the 59gr. then proceeded on with 3 shots of each until I was at the first 61.5 with no signs of pressure. After noticing that I had basically a 1" ragged hole from all the shots ( couple of fliers on my part), I decided to put up a new target and see how well it would shoot. This is 4 shots at 100 yards.

61.5 gr. R26
150 gr.Nosler LRAB
Fed. 210M
Nosler Brass.

I hope to check velocity soon.

I like the 140 Accubonds in my 270. They kill deer really well.
