The boss has graciously sprung for some new AR500 plate to extend my meager 700 yard rifle range out to 1 mile!!! I'll have gongs every 100, to 1000. And then 1200, 1500 and 1760 yards. Ordered steel this morning, 4-5 days to cut, then I'll be to bangin'.....
Nice, and, yeah, I'm a little jealous.
It'll be nice to go past what I'm used to....
About as good as it gets Don...nice
I'd rather scatter them at random distances, but too many guys that come out, don't range or adapt. It just makes it easy to line up at known distances and let them go... And most shoot off the bench anyway, so not having to move it, works fine.
That is awesome. Makes it easy to get good/better with that in your back 40.
Free targets are my favorite kind. The few people who shoot at my little range are the ones that help out in iron and muscle.
What a great range, beats walking them out and pounding T posts into the desert
. I'll bet it's hard to walk or drive past w/out shooting something.

My range only goes to 1250 yrds, put a steel at every 100 yrds, then built critter targets that I move around every now and then just to mix it up and make it more interesting, I have seen Don's, range and it's very nice, now it will be nicer. Rio7
SWEET !
I hope you enjoy !
My range is an old airport we can't use, I wish I could make it longer but no way. Rio7
You'all think I made my pigs fat enough ?
You'all think I made my pigs fat enough ?
Blue, you need to throw out some rolled oats and molasses to faten them up - LOL.... Makin some bacon. Are you cutting your own plates ?
Owl, Jeff, Yep most of the stuff we shoot is cut from a junk hi-way asphalt roller the county left by our front gate, they gave it to me after they stripped it of useable parts, every year I make a few more targets out of it. Rio7
That is awesome. Makes it easy to get good/better with that in your back 40.
it's actually on the front 640.....
Hunts.. that’s a bada$$ setup
Oh man, must be nice. I’m jealous.

Yah yah. Rub it in. 😋
Happy for you Sir! That's going to be a great setup!
Don, What rifle and caliber are you using to shoot a mile??? Rio7
My range only goes to 700, but I reckon to hit it with the creeds and the PRC when I get it set up. I lucked into a few hits on Pat's 1970 yarder at the Icebreaker a couple years ago with a creed.
Dang Don, you're not done hanging the steel yet? I came out there last night with my post pounder, sat at the gate for 15 minutes blowing my horn, you must've been asleep.
Figured You would try the 6 mm and 6.5 creed would really like to hear how you get along with the prc, I've got one on the way, still a couple of weeks away but have the dies, brass, bullets, I'm ready to go! Rio7
Same as me, Blue. Couple weeks out. But I've been fed that line every two weeks since July. Oh, just two more weeks..... Have scopes, rings, stocks, triggers, bottom metal and mags and bullets, brass, dies and such. Just waiting on Bighorn for the barreled actions that were ordered in february.
The 6.5 PRC's don't just fall off the Brown Truck every day do they?
Nice. You’ll have a ball with the extension.
Got all the target stands lazed in, t-posts pounded, chains and spreaders installed this weekend. Kind of a pain in the ass to do by yourself. I'll toss up a pic when I get the steel hung...
Jealous here. We can't see that far down here in the swamps. Call it "low country for old men".
Wow, what a great set-up! Very envious, here.
the view from my front porch....
What is that, the approach lights for a runway?
Looks like a guy could spend some time out there and be a happy man.
time out....
Time to let the barrel cool down.
I think I'd be OK with the two on the left....
Took one poke at every piece of steel today with the truck gun. Had hits on each, out to 1250 (pic). Then I completely whiffed 1500 and a mile. It was damp enuff I couldn't spot either of the two misses. It'll be powder dry in a day or 2.....
Is that Carol Merrill standing by door #2?
You lissen to Jimmy Buffet, too?....
Good shooting Huntsman22 !
How often do you guys with steel plate ranges find bullets that smacked the steel ?
I use to find them when I lived in Idaho and shot them into a flat rockface at 1040 & a little over 1400 yard spot , but never found them that hit the 2 steel plates I set up in the same spot .
I can't recall looking for bullets around the gongs, except this one time at the icebreaker. I found the little red plastic tips off my amax's (un-melted) under the 1970 yarder. 2 of 'em looked like you could use them again.....
All I find are little round disks about the size of a dime.
Bullets were laying around very visible on the ground when I walked up the to spot on the rock we were shooting .
100gr. .257 caliber - I mean cartridge bullets were usually bent with not much damage other than the rifling marks at the 1400+ spot .
280AI w/162 amax was jacket fragments - scattered around - just wondering .
Well, crap.....Puked the Burris XTRII scope on the RPR this afternoon. Elevation turret went all wonky. The illumination has been broke for a while. Oh well, I got 3 years outta it. Came in to order one of the gap LRHSi's to replace it with, and found them sold out. Always a day late.....
Nice range.
Nightforce is in stock 😉
They sell seconds, or used?.....grin
I am selling a Nightforce NXS....just saying Don, LOL!!
Yeah, I seen that. But I'm a po' boy..... Was looking for cheaper, like supertruckers sub $800 LRHSi. But I have a lead on one local, that I'll look at tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of me...
That is a pretty nice setup.
Long range practice and steaks for dinner!
