*Will swap in a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 Mil-C (C623), as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Starting load development with Starline SRP brass, H4350, 147 ELDM, and REM 7 1/2 primers. I might give WIN 780 Supreme, RL26, MRP, and H1000 a try too. I’m not sure if I need SRP Mag primers for the slower powders.

I like your stock choice a lot too. I'm still a fan of the McMillan HTG, and I believe your is almost the same but with a higher comb. Very nice.

I imagine load develop will be a breeze. You didn't mention its final build weight, though. With all those lightweight components such as the titanium action and the PR barrel, looks like you had a certain application in mind. A lightweight sheep/deer rifle maybe? Looks like the stock is fiberglass, not carbon fiber, but I can't tell for sure from the pic. If it is fiberglass, rather than carbon, I'm curious why you went that route, schedule maybe?

Also, what trigger did you install?

Again, it's a sweet rifle, and we're all anxious to hear how she performs at the range and in the field.

Fearing the world would discover them and they’d be impossible to get without a crazy wait, I ordered four actions after seeing them at SHOT. They’re well designed, finely made, and a relative bargain. I thought about offering you one, but then Fred and Beaver talked me out of two... :-j

I used a Trigger Tech 700 Special. I’m running them and the TT Diamond in almost everything. The stock was actually supposed to be a EH2 (carbon fiber by designation) with molded in color, but this is what showed up from Manners. The bbl inlet was also wrong. In an effort to keep things moving, We just moved forward. The rifle balances perfectly and shoots lights out.

Spoiler Alert.....

The rifle’s a *$4cking tack driver! It handles really well, fits really well. I love the EH2 with the 22” Proof Sendero Light— the balance is perfect. The EVO action is super slick and has feed perfectly. It’s probably my favorite rifle.

The rifle showed up Tuesday afternoon. I got a scope mounted and built some loads to find pressure. Over the next three days, really two—Thursday was a washout, I continued load development, running several 400 yrd ladder tests. Ultimately, I settled on a 46.4 gr RL26, 147 ELDM’s seated .045 off the lands in Starline SRP brass with BR4 primers. The load was doing 2783fps out of a new bbl. I’m at about 155 rounds to date.

SL brass was sorted first by length and then by weight. Necks were graphited and run over a carbide mandrel, mouths were chamfered inside and outside and flash holes were deburred.

Yesterday, I shot a PRS match with this little beauty. Of the 48 shooters, I was the only one shooting a lightweight titanium and carbon fiber rifle. The other 47 entrants wielded rifles weighing two and three times more. I think they thought I was a little nuts. By the end of the day, I’d registered a first round cold bore hit at 975 and finished as one of only two shooters who’d shot a perfect stage. The stage I aced was 12 shots in 90 seconds from prone: three at 314, three at 326, 3 at 348 and 3 at 502. Steel 45% IPSC targets were arranged to the left and right of a cut ascending up a hillside. Wind was gusting rightish to leftish 7-18mph.

I shoot the MSR2 in the MX7i and K525i. I’m a big fan of the floating center dot. NF’s center dot is a little heavy at .05mil, but I think I’ll like the 2/10 graduations on both windage and elevation. When measuring a target with the MSR2, I’m often forced to use the inverted miling L in the lower left quadrant. It would be much simpler to just use the main reticle. NF’s layout of alternate groupings of 2/10, 8/10 and 4/10, 6/10 hash marks should be pretty quick and intuitive.

you do have a nice rifle but i have a question i don`t think my Creedmoor has much recoil why did you put a noisy brake on your rifle ? plus where i shoot FTR class they are not aloud or legal either in Minnesota for FTR competition .

He's free to do what he wants. He don't have to be 'aloud', like in Nazi Minnesota. And he don't have to answer inane questions from the peanut gallery.

I shot this rifle at the New England PRS Pro Series 2 Day Match this past weekend. I had an issue with the stock so swapped a McMillian A5 Thumbhole for the match. I’m also shooting Live Oak Accuracy’s brake rather than the M11. LOA’s brake does a particularly good job mitigating muzzle rise.

Shooting a lightweight rifle in PRS puts one at a major disadvantage. When you can’t reliably spot your hits (hit or miss) you forfeit a principle feedback data stream. With this particular rifle, clear observation of impacts at ranges inside approximately 600yrds. is compromised by recoil—even with the scope set at 12-16x. This coupled with the fact that many PRS stages in the 300-600yrd. range require positions other than prone and/or complex shot\target string sequences.

I’m at the greatest advantage when shooting from prone at relatively unobscured targets. Targets that are easy to find in the scope after recoil. Similarly, stages with targets at ranges in excess of 800yrds. and the accompanying extended time of bullet flight, also present significantly increased opportunities for viewing impacts through the scope. The wind is the biggest variable. If you can’t see where you’re hitting, you’re shooting half blind.

For reference, the McMillan weighs 1lb 5oz more than the EH2.

Not me I was 10 but I’m no slouch as I stand. 😉.

I also started using Thunder Beast’s new bipod with spiked feet. So far I’m mucho happy. Leg extension is overwhelmingly mechanically positive. Flipping down the legs doesn’t require depressing a button, yet legs stay up when you want them to. The tilt lock/tensioning mechanism works as advertised—set and forget, unless you jamb the lever into something when getting into position. My only real bitch is that it doesn’t come with spiked feet, they’re another $50...

I’m still hot on the idea of the Cyke Bipod, but refuse to pay full price for one. That said, I reluctantly paid full price for the TBAC Bipod and in the end I don’t regret it in the least.

Tom Manners called me personally to address the stock. He and I have both been traveling, but Tom was anxious to assure me that he’d get it sorted.

I got the NX8 mounted this afternoon. It’s really bright and really crisp. Parallax ranges from 11yrds to infinity. With such a wide range of parallax, depth of focus is rather shallow. I need to spend some time behind it with a notebook before I can comment meaningfully. Eye relief also appears to be somewhat critical. It’s certainly svelte and compact and when adjusted properly, the NX8 delivers a smashing view.

WTF happened to the stock?

The forend walked to the right toward the tip resulting in the barrel rubbing on the left side of the barrel channel. I first noticed this when temps got up to near 100°F while woodchuck hunting at the farm, then at a match the following week, it persisted. The forend does not come back when cooled.

Apparently with a barrel channel inlet as large as this (Proof Light Sendero), the stock should have been made in carbon fiber and/or had the barrel channel lined with carbon fiber.

Thanks Kingston, I really like that blueprint. That would make a fine hunting rifle. I am thinkin and plannin... scary I know..... but I came up with a similar blueprint in my mind, was thinkin of a 17" barrel and a lightweight suppressor. With a NXS 2,5-10 it would be a handy package.
