Yep
Think this no less than the 3rd posting I've read on the fire.

I've known about it happening for better than 6 months now, maybe closer to a year.

Thanks for the heads up. grin

One of those I already knew that types? One in every crowd I guess.

Thank you for passing along information Taylor.

I hadn’t heard anything until I got the email Friday. I lost all respect for Kelly McMillan after the whole Mc3 debacle. I guess I was fishing for opinions on Bob Beck. I’ve seen his show a couple times, seems like a salesman but occasionally those guys can be alright.

I don’t know any of them but I’ve never had a issue with anything McMillan related. I’ve bought all my stocks or new stocks through Rick. I have called them a lot over the years for information ordering other things they carry etc... I always got a answer and if the person who answered the phone didn’t know if they got it for me pretty quick.

I remember a little about the Mc3 stocks coming out but that’s it. I never ordered one or even looked into one.

I've personally never met Bob, have a friend that knows Bob fairly well. When I saw the posting this week about the change of ownership, I was like huh, I though it had already happened.

I can see the salesman part, but when you are trying to entertain doing videos , shows and pimp your product....I can't be easy.

Hmmm... What's the "cliff notes" story about it?

Thanks

Mc3 debacle?

Please explain.

My Ruger sits in a McMillan stock, and I couldn't be happier with it, but please school me about the "Mc3 debacle". Sounds serious.

Yeah- the Mc3. Kelly hyped it up saying it was revolutionary lightweight material - prepaid orders would be shipped in “a couple months”. Finally got a couple a year and half later. Heavy Tupperware with plastic trigger guards. I’m guessing research cost him millions judging by the way their standard stocks have gone up. I’ve been treated really well by the office staff over the years but Kelly can kiss my a$$.

So that must be the stock I saw at the LGS last week. There was a package rifle made up to sell and it said McMillan stock on the tag. Looked like a solid color plastic A5 maybe? It was heavy ,real heavy.

That’s the one!

Thanks 375...

Sorry if I came of harsh in the beginning.

Didn’t bother me. I guess I was shocked to get the press release on Friday and hear it was common knowledge.

I was talking to them in middle of December about specs and weights on a stock model... now 4 weeks later it seems I can't order the stock anymore, because they removed it.

Had I known in December they where canceling several of their stock models.. I would have bought it then!
Propper messaging to customers, either via Facebook, website or emails, and they would have gotten 2 maybe 3 stock orders from me then..
Combine that with all the others from several forums just finding out now, it would add up to quite a few orders..

What models did they discontinue?

From the looks of their website you can get a generic stock for a Rem 700 BDL. Looks like cookie cutter stuff to me.

I quit using Mc stocks after two customers ordered custom fit stocks from them, both of which had major fitment issues.

Curious who you found that was comparable with the options McMillan offers that does a better job? Serious question not arguing about it.

I stock almost exclusively with wood and worked almost exclusively on Mausers. These were customer supplied stocks that they provided McMillan the barreled actions for. Both completed stocks had inletting/fitment issues that weren't readily fixable due to being completed/painted. The customer's paid a good deal extra, waited longer, and incurred the time and expense of mailing McMillan the barreled actions, only to get a stock whose inletting did not match what was sent to them. Prior to these I used a few McMillans with the edge fill, at least one of which was part of a group by here on the fire, that fit well and were nice. But as time went on, more issues seemed to crop up to the point where it wasn't worth my time and effort to build a rifle using their stocks. I never looked for another vendor since it wasn't a big part of my business model.

For other Makes and Models, their stocks may be fine, but they didn't serve me or my customers well for our needs.

good that they nailed his ass.
Posted By: dogcatcher223 Re: McM - new owner - 01/22/21
That doesn't really make sense. I have had to send my barreled action to McMillan several times, and the rifle comes back assembled after they inlet.

Correct, makes no sense, you'd think since they charge for the service it would fit. But that's why I won't use them again.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: McM - new owner - 01/22/21
I don’t blame you for not using them again. I have only used them for Remington/clones Winchester and Howa/Vanguard. They have all been right or right enough considering I was bedding them anyway. If I sent the barreled action in to them or anyone else and it wasn’t s good fit I would not be pleased either.
