I purchased a Leonard Brownell No 19 in 25-06 about 15 years ago. It was in the used firearms section of a local gun shop here in Southern California. Obviously I was immediately impressed by the stock work. At the time I was not a fan of the caliber, but that has changed. Anyway, I would love to get some more info on this fine custom rifle. I plan on using it to hunt Mulies with my cousin in the interior of British Columbia this fall. I’ll have two rifles, the Brownell will be the fair weather rifle.
Any info you could give me on the rifle would be fantastic, is there someone I could contact to find out who was the original owner of the rifle?

Rifle info:
1) Barrel is 24.5 inches long. top of barrel is engraved Leonard Brownell WY No 19. Underneath the stock on the barrel it’s marked “25-06 D. XX 1-10 CM KE Smith”. I’m assuming that it’s a Douglas XX grade barrel With a 1-10 inch twist and KE Smith shaped and chambered it.
2) FN Mauser Receiver, jeweled bolt.
3) Recoil pad appears to be a NOSHOC with a leather back (not on sides).
4) Brownell custom stock.

Nothing really to add other than it is a gem of a rifle!

Good luck finding out more. It looks like a helluva rifle just to hold!
There's a certain 7mm Rem Mag Brownell Winchester 70 out there somewhere I'd love to own.

😉

Nice rifle, OP.
Beautiful gun. I own Lenard Brownell #59 a 270 Win. on a pre-64 M70 action.
For an informative 17 page article Google: Lenard Brownell, American Society of Arms Collectors Bulletin
Thanks Poconojack I read that article, lots about f good info. I wonder if anyone has the original Brownell records Per serial number, if they exist?

One of these fine days I wanna get Matt to bring that rifle to NY just so I can fondle it…. Something like that would really make me happy. I’ve always had it in my brain that I’d like a Mashburn like that. I have an ugly, all weather one, but a pretty wood and blued gun might be nice.
