Thought we could start a thread showing off our custom builds. Here are two of my favorite.
First one: 280 REM built on a Dakota 76 CRF action. Krieger barrel, English Walnut stock, engraving by John Todd, stock work by Robert Schuck.
Second: Left handed 400 Holland & Holland (was my fathers). I inherited it after he passed. Built off a 1999 CRF Montana Action, Australian Walnut stock from Roger Vardi, stock work done by Robert Schuck. Engraving done by John Todd
Thank God... I had a fleeting thought that the 'fire had gone porno.....
Thank goodness Brett Favre isn't a member.
Beautiful rifles.
The wood on the 400 Holland & Holland is really something.
Roger Vardy sells some nice blanks.
An old Iver Henriksen rifle, Husqvarna action 25-06
G33/40. Maker unknown. 30-06
Argy 7x57. Doug barrel.
Here are a couple I stocked last year, on top a Pre War 30/06 and the bottom is a Pre 64 270
Dakota No 1 in 7x57
And my Brno 21 in 7x57
This is going to be (hopefully) an awesome thread. Those two 7x57’s are a sight for sore eyes!!!
Mauser 257 Roberts
Commercial FN 98 in 6.5x55. Needs glass.
Oh you’ve been holdin out Scotty!! 😂👍
Nice👊🏻
Outstanding! You've been quietly hoarding.
Not mine fellas. Most of them are NYRifleman’s collection. I just volunteered to post them up for him.
I’m just a M70 hack myself. Those posted are dream rifles.
280ai built by Benchmark barrels. Stock by Jim62.
2 oryx, and 2 elk so far.
Here are a couple of .270 Winchesters, a Jack O'Connor Tribute, and a Ruger No. 1B purchased slightly used--have no idea who made the stock.
Beautiful rifles fellas! Dang!
Mark Penrod did all the metal work. It’s exquisite. Gene Simillion did the stock work (Turkish walnut) in the original Ruger 1B style...
That is absolutely gorgeous.... what I wouldn't give.
Ed, I always admired that 7x57 Swede.
These are some SWEET pieces gents!!
Shrap, the wood on that #1 is simply stunning! Beautiful rifle.
Dang. Beautiful wood, gentlemen.

Sir, really like the pattern on the top bolt gun. Who carved that? TIA.
Forgot my most recent good-wood rifle, a Griffin & Howe 1903 Springfield made in 1930. Based on a National Match barreled action, it shoots great.
Commercial FN 98 in 6.5x55. Needs glass.
Very, very nice.
May I ask who carved that stock? Very nice.
Very nice! Your rifle looks to have very nice grain figure compared to most G&Hs that I’ve seen. How does it compare in fit/finish to your Pachmayr?
Nice stuff as always, Shrapnel!
I know, I know, it's a shotgun, but still a nice piece of wood. D-grade 870 skeet from the custom shop.
Bob
Tarquin, thank you. The rifles are my work. It's become a favorite hobby recently.

Thanks. Jim Wisner metal is pretty hard to beat.
Some good lookin' wood, Gentlemen!

That bluing is so blue it looks wet, and the stock is gorgeous. Nice work!
Ruger No.3 with curly sugar maple
This is a 10 bore shotgun made by Westley Richards with an exceptional piece of wood...
Very nice! Your rifle looks to have very nice grain figure compared to most G&Hs that I’ve seen. How does it compare in fit/finish to your Pachmayr?
Had been looking for a Griffin & Howe Springfield for 30 years, but had never "pulled the trigger" due to what you've also noticed about them: Most have relatively plain wood. This one obviously doesn't!
I would say the inletting of the G&H is better than the Pachmayr 1903. They're about equal in finish and checkering. I sold the Pachmayr to help pay for the G&H, partly because while the Pachmayr had originally been a .35 Whelen, it had been converted to .358 Norma Magnum years later, probably in the 1950s when that made some sense, as the .358 Norma was a factory cartridge and the .35 Whelen then still a wildcat.
Which is also why I bought the G&H: It's a .30-06, and all the evidence points to it being made on a National Match barreled action (apparently quite a few were). Have found that I don't have much need for rifles in larger, harder-kicking cartridges anymore--and my custom-stocked 9.3x62 CZ 550 fills what little need there is. It has pretty nice wood too:

Did you do the bluing yourself ?
What type of bluing solution?
What polish did you polish the metal to ?
Hal
Hal, I just do the wood, so afraid I'm not able to offer the specifics that you are looking for. The blue for both rifles was done by Custom Gunsmithing Inc. in nearby Boyce, VA. It is a hot blue, though I can't describe their metal prep with any detail. I do prefer a little texture vs. a high polish for hunting rifles, so perhaps that is why the metal appears as it does in the photos.
Remingtons don't get much love in threads like these. As enjoyable as custom M98s and M70s are, I most often hunt with a Remington.
Here's a M722 in .243.....
My nicest. Built by James Anderson and Shane Thompson. Engraved by Roger Kehr.
It was started about 12 years ago and I did a build thread on this board. You can see it from start to finish
HERE.
Looking through this thread is giving me wood envy, beautiful rifles!
I don’t have any custom rifles because they are out of my tax bracket. I do have a couple of factory rifles with pretty good wood.
This Browning 22 Hornet is pretty nice.
I never realized how plain and unimpressive my wood was until I got a good look at y’alls wood. I took a hard gaze and examine every vein, er, grain.
Refinished, but this is the factory wood on my .260 Low Wall.
John
Dakota 76 284 Win
Although this is a shotgun, it still has a nice stock on it. This gun was made in 1867...

A stock I'm putting finish on to put a 280 pre 64 Mdl 70 custom by Dale Goens that somehow (no one knows) lost it's stock.

.308 Win by Sterling Davenport. Typical thornbrush where I hunt on the west side of South Texas. It is hot and harsh, but beautiful in its own way.
