I thought about doing a 6.5x55 mauser build and i came across this one. From what I have been told, this is a Parker and Hale. I know nothing about them other than that they were manufactured in Spain and exported over to England so they could make rifles. someone educate me on this thing. Two questions:

1) are they good and suitable for a build?
2 ) if you had the action, would you build off of it or sell it?

They are a Santa Barbera action. A decent commercial Mauser which is saddled with a crappy trigger. I would be OK using it, but would expect to have to do some work. GD

There is a controversy right in Fire Forums. My view that they are simply not the quality of other alternatives, as questions about proper receiver heat treating. Existing FN mauser sporting actions, probably requiring 'harvest' from some existing rifle. Otherwise the Zastava mauser action close copy as really quite decent. They may yet be available. The note your photos not viewable, but familiar with the product!
The 6.5 Swede a great cartridge. Nowadays I don't know whether ammo is problematic if you don't handload.
My suggestion that if you're not set on the latter genre of mauser pattern sporting actions, many other good choices such as Sako, for instance. IF set on commercial FN, likely such as Husqvarna Model 640 genre or even an early fifties Sears/Wards FN actioned rifle donor.

Another point about the Santa Barbera actions is that they are an alloy action rather than carbon steel. Probably a chromoly alloy. They are relatively tough actions. I had a damaged one, a 7mm mag, come into the shop. The stock was split, the extractor was missing, the floorplate was broken off. Turned out it had had a 303 british round fired through it. The receiver and bolt were unhurt. I replaced the extractor, floorplate, and follower, and repaired the stock. The rifle worked fine. So, they are strong enough. I think the action is every bit as good as a Zastava and maybe better. With any other trigger installed, they are just fine. GD
