I have a barrel threaded for a Remington 700. I want to throw the barrel on a Sako 75, 579, 497? I can't seem to find the threads or pitch on any of the actions. The barrel doesn't have enough shank to cut and rethread, so I am forced to sell it or "hopefully" throw it on a Sako. Does anyone know? Flinch
Flinch,

<br>The 700's threads are .885" long, 1.050" in diameter, 16 TPI. The Sako L-579 is .870" long, 1.00" diameter, and also 16 TPI.

I have in my hands a 7mm Rem Mag 700 barrel and a Mitutoyo dial vernier.Shank is .878" long.Counterbore for the bolt extension is .153 deep. You don't need/want this for a Sako, so facing it off brings the shank length to .725.Quite a simple matter to turn the length to .870 and thread to 1" x 16. Any smith or a good machinist could do this in about an hour, including headspacing it without a reamer as long as you don't care about screw holes or stamping. But most smiths won't install takeoff barrels.Ship it to me, I'll make sure it gets a good home....by the way...what chamber is it?
Rembo, it is a SS #4 Lilja with around 150 rounds though it. It is 27.5 inches long. By the looks of things, it will work on a Sako. Thanks for the imput. Flinch
Was wondering if you tried this idea out? I may be considering rebarreling a sako AV to 338UM, and would consider a rem takeoff barrel for the project. What ya think?
