I just had a .264 Win Mag completed by Mark Penrod. It used to be a .338 Win Mag that I successfully used on 3 trips to Zimbabwe. I've always wanted a .264 and haven't used the .338 for several years. I thought I'd get more use for it as a deer rifle in .264

-Kreiger 1-8" twist barrel @25"
-Echols Legend (McMillan) carbon fibre stock with hidden cross bolts
-checkered bolt knob
-checkered bolt release
-restyled tang
-Williams extractor & bottom metal
-Leupold VX5 3-15x44 Firedot Scope
-S&K rings/bases (had to go medium vs low to clear bolt handle)

Ngrumba,

Beautiful rifle!

Just out of curiosity anyone have an idea who makes that rear bag?

Other than the bolt being on the wrong side that is a stunner!

Mark does his own metalwork. He’s a master at it.

What’s the contour and finished weight?

The bolt is perfect exactly like it is. Don't listen to him...except for where he said it was a stunner. He did get that part right. grin

Beautifully put together. How long ago did you get the stock?
Enjoy that classy rifle.

Oh, that's nice.
Posted By: Ngrumba Re: M70 LH 264 Win Mag - 02/09/24
The contour is a Penrod design he sent the specs to Kreiger to make.

I would guess it weighs a little less than 8 lbs.

Im down to one Echols stock left. At one time I had 5. The’ve gotten to be scarce as hens teeth. I have them on all my M70s. A few years back, D’Arcy told me he had to order 10 at a time to have McMillan do a run. He was 3 short, so I ordered 3 so he could get the order going.

The Williams bottom metal is off the .338. I don’t believe you can buy it anymore. I’ve got Burgess, Williams, and Blackburn bottom metal on different M70s. Burgess died- I heard Williams went out of business, you can still get Blackburn.

I have a left hand Legend stock on one of my rifles and it's a pretty nice stock to handle. I don't really like the shape of the cheekpiece, but I don't hate it either.
That barrel length and contour looks real good in that stock. Balance should be decent.
I'm curious as to how your chamber is throated. The standard spec for the 264 is way too short IMO. GD

Ngrumba,

Any Idea if D’Arcy will still do a run of LH Legend stocks?
I don’t see any info on his website for ordering nowadays.

I’ve got two LH Model 70s w/Legend stocks(one on a custom 30.06 and another on a 7mm Rem Mag). I had 3 at one time and a 4th one I ordered for a friend who wanted to duplicate my rifle but in 300 Win Mag.

I’d love to order another LH Legend and do exactly what you have done….build a 264 win mag.

I talked to D’Arcy several years ago when he came out with the “Shrike” stock for the Rem 700. Asked him at the time if he had plans to do a lefty version like he had with the Legend?
He laughed and said, he did not.
Then he explained how that LH Legend mold from McMillan had cost him tens of thousands of dollars, of which he had never recovered due to only a very few LH Legend stock ever being sold.

That is a shame…..I told him at the time that I would order 2 LH Shrike stocks for Rem 700s if he’d make a mold.

Super nice guy!….D’Arcy. He will talk your ear off!😁

If, in fact, he will do another run of Lefty Legend stocks, I’d be willing to purchase another if there is enough interest here on “The Campfire” to come up with 10 orders……?

Very nice. I imagine it took some time to gather components and assemble. Not a quick process.

Gorgeous rifle! I'd be interested in a Lefty M70 order if we can get it going!

I've had a couple of LH M70s and just couldn't warm up to them. However, that one might just do it for me. grin

Nice rifle!
Who did the stock work, bedding, painting, etc.? I don’t believe Mark does glass stocks.

Mark did the whole enchilada.
Posted By: NWT Re: M70 LH 264 Win Mag - 03/17/24
Very well done. I believe Mark is not set up to do the machine inletting on the flat top Echol’s stocks, only the McMillan/Echol’s factory Pre inletted stocks.

That’s a hunting rifle. Very nice.

I obviously do not understand the economics of building a stock mold and sub-contracting with McM to build custom stocks. However, I always got the impression that there was an outstanding demand for LH Echols Legend stocks? Multiple people, including myself, have posted that we would be interested in purchasing at least one more, if they became available... I would be willing to pre-pay...
