Seller claims this is a Tom Burgess rifle. It is not.
https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...16-taylor-w-leupold.cfm?gun_id=102615097Multiple reasons. Tom didn’t do stock work.
I had the metal work built and it wasn’t done by Burgess.
Hmm. Who did the metal work?
Those are Burgess ring’s it looks like.
Thanks for the tip, i know i'd not like to buy a fake 1970 model Hemi Cuda either ; ]

Me either LOL I think the seller is in La La land price wise.
Chuck,
The rings were made by Thos M Burgess. At one time I had 5 sets. I used a set on that 416.
However the rest of the barreled action was done by another very good metal guy. I ordered it so I know.
I sold it and that blank to a friend who had it completed. The barrel band and front sight were install by the stockmaker who also installed the peep sight on the rear scope mount base.
Will buy you a drink of your choice if you can name the metal man.
The fellow who ordered the stock died. I lost track of that rifle.
Did Dean Zollinger do the metal work?

Belk?
And I wish I had a few of those sets of rings.
That is a beautiful rifle. It always amazes me when someone recognizes a rifle on the interwebs that they previously owned. I guess when you get into uber high end stuff and big game rifles such as this the pond shrinks considerably. Unfortunately I do not swim in that pond apparently.
I wouldn’t buy the rifle just because the top scope ring screws are not clocked….
Action work, scope bases, barrel, and barrel band by Ted Blackburn when he was personally making his bottom metal in Springville UT. Thos M Burgess made the QD scope rings.
Anybody guess who made the stock? I supplied the blank. It is true French from Tessier. The stockmaker installed the front sight and the peep in the rear scope base.
I had forgotten that Ted made the barrel band.
Hint, the stockmaker lives in the area around Kalispell MT.
^Was going to suggest Olson as well, but isn’t he in Plains? And Speiser is Missoula.
Both “area” I guess.
Mandarino is a fabulous stockmaker but he didn’t do this one.

Sadly, no. Mr Kennedy died quite awhile ago. Jerry Fisher told me on multiple occasions that he thought Kennedy was the finest stockmaker of all time. Jerry said Kennedy could inlet and shape a side lock shotgun or rifle with tangs from a blank with no hesitation.
Kennedy was the only person who Purdy would allow to stock their actions. I saw one magnificent .465 double which he did.
Answer:
Lee Helgeland
There is a 458 on the Hallowell site. Look at the distinctive placement and shape of rear swivel.
My deceased friend, to whom I sold the metal, had a number of rifles completed by LH.
I wish I had kept that stick.
I’ve seen quite a few gorgeous Helgeland creations on Hallowell’s website.
