After getting a thread cut off the barrel and the chamber reamed it is looking pretty sexy. No more silly ventura shoulder!

The 300 Weatherby AI case is on the right, compared to a virgin 300 Weatherby case..

You are a true believer. smile
bout time you got that back... Finally someone made a worthwhile 300WBY..
That's the funky'est 40 degree shoulder I've ever seen... smile
93 degree shoulder?

That shorter neck should make it more accurate, I overheard in the gunshop today that longer necks are inaccurate and cause bullet instability!
It's actually greater than 40 degrees, but for the lack of a better term I called it Ackley Improved.
i call it a Steely improved...grins
what did you finally decide? 85 or 87 deg?
Yes..
Norma brass is a little soft huh?
No, it fireformed just fine as you can see.
I've got a few 375H&H cases that look just like that....
After I tried to turn them into 340 Weatherby's....
Also have a couple of Better Bob's that were once 7x57 AI that look similar...Got a couple with double rolled shoulders...
I guess I missed the new fad... smile
Steely
Some of these guys are smarter than they look. Or do they just know you too well. grin
Can't imagine Bart being dumber than he looks.........
But I got a good smile.... laugh
From the way the mouth of the case is turned into the side of the bullet it looks like someone forgot the seating die doesn't go all the way down to the shellholder, lest the crimping shoulder get involved much too soon.

Were you getting ready for another Crown Royal box at 700 yards test while you were loading? laugh
I think the Crown Royal box was involved in the fireforming! grin
That's EXACTLY what I thought! grin grin
It appears to be "neck size only" now.
That shoud buff right out!
I thought I was the only one that did "improved" cases like that.
Did you say Ugly Improved?
A long, long, long time ago, I made some 30-06 loads that looked a lot like that.

They don't feed for crap!
great!, now even weatherby brass is made in china....
What is the shoulder angle 60 degrees? Definitely funky looking
I'v a 300 Rum that looks very simillar........

Sure felt funny on the down stroke..
That's the sharpest angle I've ever seen on an Ackley! powdr
Looks to me like either the brass is a little soft, the bullet too large for the neck or else the brass wasn't expanded and the bullet crushed the whole shebang.
What's the purpose? Messed up a perfectly good cartridge.
Some of you boys are way to anal to have a good time methinks....
Steely,
What are you planning on shooting through your "new baby?"
I assume TSX, but what weight are you leaning towards?
(The reason I ask is I have an interest in trying the TSX in my 300RUM)-which should be fairly close to your Roy.

It usually feels better if you let someone else do it...
Got them loaded up with 180gr TSX. Didn't seem to have much problem ringing steel at 550 yards the other day. Got the new trigger in it today and the McMillan ordered....
Sounds alright.
Look forward to seeing a pic or two when she is all done...
In about 5 months...
Steelie..

That looks like a "300 Weatherby Inverted" !!
A couple more loadings and me thinks it'll lose it's (Incipient)head too !! BT

Yes
What trigger did you go with....we know it's not a Rifle Basix.
I ran into a guy from Homer that hunted with a cartridge that looked nearly identical to that back in 1994. This was before the advent of the 30-378 era and portable range finders.

The need for extreme speed was mitigated to a large extent by the availability of good, light laser rangefinders- now we can figure our clicks ahead of time, range it, dial it and kill it. No need to push 120 grainers at 4300 out of a 30 cal!!!

That thing will probably shoot lights out!
Ah that's alright, all of Steelie's barrels are smooth bores anywaygrin

Mike
Timney is the only maker of aftermarket triggers for Howa's that I'm aware of.
Looks like the ole 300 Obtuse round. Definitely a critter getter!
That's just scary lookin
Reminds me of the 375 GIMP
Next time try lubing the bullet before seating...... laugh
