I'm considering ethier re-boring or re-barrelling a bolt gun to 35 Rem. without spending a arm and a leg.

not sure how the smaller rim would act in a 473 bolt. may be fine, i dont know for sure..

the 358win would be a drop in and you could easily load it down for 35 rem purposes..... just a thought......

I have been thinking of using ethier a comm. short action or a Yugo mauser action.
I have owned 35 Whelens ,358 Winnys ,356 winnys, 375 winnys, 350 Rem. Mags. & 9.3 X62 s ,I really like the 35 Rem. it can just about handle any critter with proper bullets, and with very little recoil or fuss...the bullets for the 25 rem. work great at there vel.s.

The 35's rim diameter (.460") would be a problem if you used an unmodified Mauser (.473") bolt and extractor. The 35 is also much shorter OAL than the x57 rounds. The follower and/or feed rails might need work. Were it me and I wanted a short 35 on a Mauser action without "spending an arm and a leg" I'd be goin' with the 358 Win.

Remington 600/660's came in .35 Remington, though the "collector" market has driven the price up somewhat. If I just had to have a .35 Rem boltgun, I'd buy a Rem M7 and rebarrel it. With the right stock you could be at 6 lbs, more or less, if light weight were of interest to you.

I've thought about a .25 Remington, or a .32 Remington occasionally, for no reason other than it would be interesting to dink with, in the right kind of small action.

Wouldn't one of the models chambered for the 6.8 Rem work without changing the bolt face?

that would be another option and the 223 also. open the bolt face for proper care and massage the rails..... if it had to be a 35 then i would look at that.... JMO

I know an XP-100 in 35 Remington will feed 243 cases just fine, with a different follower, just for conversation.

I wonder if an Interarms Mini-Mauser or Remington 799 in 7.62x39 would be a place to start, since the case head diameters would be close. Also, the Remington 799s are sold in 22-250, so OAL between the 22-250 and 35 Rem would be close. Rebarrel, install a 22-250 follower, and bed it in a B&C stock. Might be a handy little rig!

I also have desired a 35 Remington in a bolt action, I would
love to have a Remington 600, but the prices are out of this
world and dont stay long when they show up for sale. Remington
makes a Model Seven KS in the custom shop in 35, but once again
the price is high, there was one for sale on GB a month or
so ago. I also saw a Mauser 98 in 35 on GB but it went fast,
every now and then an old custom Mauser 91 that has been
converted to 35 comes up for sale, but I would rather have
a 98 any day. Winchester made the Model 70 in 35 back in the
40s, but they are the most expensive of the lot. There is a
guy over on Savageshooters.com that was telling me about converting a Stevens 200 short action to 35 Remington and
says it isnt hard to do or very expensive. Someday Im going
to splurge and order a Remington Model Seven KS.

with all the remmy stuff can i assume the 473 bolt will work fine?

MidwayUSA used to sell short chambered A&B barrels chambered in 35 Remington for the small ring Mausers. IIRC, they were 21" CM barrels.

MidwayUSA also has, or recently had, ready to install A&B barrel for the Savage 11/110 & Stevens 200s in 338 Fed and 358 Win, both of which seem like an easier way to get from A to B then doing a 35 Rem would be, but whatever moves you.

The gentleman on Savageshooters.com said that a Savage bolt
head for a PPC cartridge could be modified to 35 Remington
headsize.

I once had a 35 remmy in the 600 and was not too terribly impressed with it.

You would be just as well to buy a BLR or a 358 bolt guna dn load down, having the ability to load up when needed. Also there is a place called Allans-armory that imported a bunch of 9.3x57 model 96 sedes. I bought one and am just enamored with it. Dies will make you scream to pay for, but you can use 8mauser brass and it is easy enough to load up, and as you are going to be loading for it in short order, you can load it at 35 or 358 power levels.

6.8 bolt face is right for 25, 32, or 30 Rem, too small for 35 Rem.

I seem to recall an article in one of the gun rags where the author had a bolt rilfe in .35 Rem. IIRC it was a lightweight synthetic job by one of the custom boys. Rifles, Inc or Ultra Light Arms, something along those lines.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

The gun was a NULA .35 Rem and the article was in the Rifle Shooter magazine .

I probably still have this one in the boxes in the basement.

It may have been written by Richard Mann. He did a write up in Nosler's #6 manual for the .358 Win. He wrote about a NULA (or ULA) that was originally chambered in .35 Rem, but later rechambered to .358 Win.
