Thought I'd share with everyone some pics of my old 450 Ackley that I have had tidied up a bit. It started life with me in 1990 as a 458 Win Mag I had built, shot it for years as a 458 then decided to rechamber to a 450 Ackley about 6 years ago.
This is without a doubt my favourite rifle, its one of those rifles you can pick up and instantly hit things with it, sort of an arm extension. Anyway a few months ago I had a gunsmith mate of mine here tidy it up a bit, he added the stock from Richards Microfit, a limbsaver, Brownells bolt handle and the sights and barrel band sling swivel. The Redfield 5 star 2-7 has been on it since day 1 and never moves point of impact.
Though I'd share my happiness of how the project turned out.

David.

A very nice 'serious' rifle for sure. My custom .338/8mm Remmag is on a 1917 action as well. They are a great starting point for a budget big boomer. Those 1970's era Redfields were pretty danged tough scopes.
Nice enfield. My first 458 lott, and my 500 Jeffrey were built on enfields. Perfect big heavy actions for big heavy rifles.
My Enfield action is screwed onto an octagon Shelen barrel in 35 Whelen. It sports a laminated maple and walnut stock and a M8-6x Leupold. I had the trigger guard slimmed down and a hinged floor plate added. The rifle is heavy and I like it that way for recoil reduction with those big 250 grain Speer Grand Slams. Shoots about 1.5 to 1.75 inch, 3-shot groups at 100.
Your left handed, shooting a right hand rifle? Cool, do you use it hunting?
Yes, I'm left handed using a Right handed rifle, I'm that used to using a R/H action, I find I just can't get used to a L/H action, have tried, but ended up selling them.
I'm mainly a comp shooter in the BGRC, but this one has seen a bit of hunting over here, nothing big though, just a few pigs etc. I mainly use the lighter bullets, 350 and 400 mostly, 500's are a little difficult to buy here, and expensive. Also I don't really have a need for a 500 grn, when a 400 Woodleigh will do whatever I shoot at.
I too have a 500 J on an Enfield, I like them because they are a good starter action that is long enough for most cartridges I would plan to use one for.

Thanks for everyones replies so far.

David.
