So few guys have mentioned how easy it was to do a camo paint job on a gun. Since I have been wanting to try DuraCoat or CeraKote, I first needed to experiment with camo patterns, just to see if I could do a semi-pro job before I bothered purchasing the necessary equipment and expensive coatings.
I've always preferred the look of wood, but have managed to acquire a few all black guns that I use pretty heavily.
Anyway, this .270 WSM Winchester M70 Super Shadow started off pretty homely looking, then lost a several fights with the ugly stick. So she was happy to volunteer herself for my first attempt at plastic surgery.
I degreased the gun, rubbed out the rust spots with 120 grit paper, then roughed up the shiny scope rings with it, and roughed the barrel a little also. Plugged a few holes, taped up the glass, and out came the Rustoleum Camo paints a Hobby Lobby stencil, a spruce twig and a little bit of dried grass, and away I went.

Let her rest overnight, then pull the gauze off in the morning and hand that ugly girl a mirror so she can admire herself:

She mumbled something about wanting a little more chain link further up the barrel, so that's all I'm about to change. I don't really care if it wears off, it was easy to do, and it's just an experiment before fooling with more expensive stuff.

I thought it deteriorated after you added the chain linking. Just my personal opinion.

I think I should have gone without the chain links also. That's an easy enough fix. The other option would be to add more, which I'm not excited about doing to the gun.
Not sure if I'll leave her as is or not.

Not bad for a first time. I've found when painting gun stocks and bows, that I like to do a somewhat 'reverse stencil' process. Paint gun green, mask off shapes. Paint brown, mask off shapes. Continue with other colors, then paint with tan baselayer.

Gone Green eh? Cool! I like.

Reverse stenciling was the easiest way for me to do it too.
