Now that I have decided on a 257 WBY Mag for my re-barrel project I was wondering if there are any gunsmiths from Colorado around here. Or from a neighboring state. thanks tom
Tom, Norm Thompson is on road 105 east of Monument. Frank Pucket, who is an eye doctor, and office is in Monument does superb work. There is another up in Woodland Park that does super accurate rilfes, but I forget his name. ( I could get it with a phone call). There is another in Colorado Springs. I think the name is Hi Tech or something like that. The guy in Woodland park and Frank Pucket would be my two choices.Norm Thompson does good work, but I don't think he specializes in tack drivers.
Saddlesore,
thanks for the info could you PM me the phone numbers if it is not too much trouble?

BTW I PM'd you before the holidays hoping we could visit. Did you get the PM? tom

Would the guy in Woodland Park be Brad Starr of Performance Guns? He has built several rifles for me and is still my first choice over all the others. He is in Utah now. His number is 801-731-8152
Dan Dowling in Palisade and Greg Tannel in Kersey have made rifles for friends. Haven't used them personally though...
Ah Tom,
Just send it up here and I'll take care of it for ya'. Heck, I need some practice on something and I got a couple of old files around here, and a hacksaw, maybe even an old vise duct taped down to the workbench.

Heck, you can even bring it with you next time you come up and we'll discuss and perform the project over a couple bottles of Shafer Vineyards wine and a couple bottles of Tequila! Talk about some quality work- yeehaawww!- (grin)- Bob
I see how you are Bob lol. tom
Tom, I never got the PM, befoer the holoiday. Yep Brad Star is the guy in Woodland park. Probably my fiirst choice.
Norm Thompson's number is 719-481-9757. You can probably get a hold of Frank Pucket at the Monument Vision Clinic 719-488-2042. He doesn't do oo many outside jobs, but he kinda specializes in magnums.

Dan Dowling in Palisade,CO is probably the best there is in CO. He has been building and shooting BR guns for at least 25 years. I've known him for about 30 years, even when he was in the service of his country. Never heard anyone bad mouth him.

Dan
thanks Vince, humm wonder who I sent PM to? lol. tom
Tom,

Ahem..... I was wondering why you didn't show up for Thanksgiving! Had the turkey and stuffing ready and everything.
Next time it will be Tofurkey! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />- Bob
I really like the general gunsmithing work that Ray Montgomery from Grand Junction does. The work that Ray has done for me has always been first class, quick, and reasonably priced.

The only gun that he worked on that I don't like, a Savage 99CD in 257AI, would likely have been more successful if I had listened to Ray and Bearrr264, instead of insisting that I had to have a lever action AI, rather than a plain bob or a 25-284.

David Sullivan in Erie specializes in varmint & target rifles. Rocky Mountain Rifle works in the Longmont area (303-823-6270) makes their own barrels and at one time, I believe, provided barrels for the US Navy rifle team. Dale Storey of DGS in Casper (307-237-2414) has built five rifles I have owned and does a really nice job also.
I'll second Greg Tannel. You've probably heard about the Gre-Tan shrouds, etc. for Remingtons? He makes those. Sharp guy and if I remember will guarantee 1/2 moa for under .30 cal rifles (whatever that REALLY means). Kersey is not far from Greeley.
thanks for all the feedback gents. tom

Rich Reilly of High Tech Customs is in Colorado Springs, He does really nice work. his site is htcustoms also his number is (719) 667-1090. I would highly reccomend him. Good luck
I will second the suggestion for Ray Montgomery in Grand Junction. He has barreled two rifles for me, one a push feed M70 in 338/06 AI and the other a M700 in .358. Both were done well, promptly, and reasonably priced. Plateau Hunter
