I am going to have my browning ABolt 243 WSSM rebarreled and was wondering what twist rate to shoot the 110 Berger.
Barrel contour and brand recommendations would be appreciated.
What are you planning to use it for?
Since I like the 25 WSSM more than the 223 WSSM and 243 WSSM, my recommendation is to go 25 WSSM with a 1 in 9" ROT, stainless, from the vendor of your choice, in the contour of your choice.
Jeff
I went 1-8 on my 243AI. Pacnor 3 groove. 23". Now if it'll show up from the 'smith, I'll let you know how it shoots. I'm going to shoot the 105amax.
And, I had them dupe Remmy Mountain Rifle for contour..
I wouldn't spend the money on an A-Bolt anything..... Add a top flight barrel and you still are stuck with an A-bolt. Then, to rebarrel for a cartridge that will be obsolete about the time I finish typing here.... Why not trade it off toward a good gun in a better designed fast 6mm cartridge?
Being "obsolete" doesn't necessarily make a cartridge "bad", just not sufficiently popular with the general shooting public for the manufacturers to commit production space/time to it. Just because you or I don't like a particular cartridge doesn't mean that it isn't a perfect choice for another.
Jeff
I am sticking with the A Bolt. As far as it being obsolete, I reload I do not care. I would like to know what 260Remguy thoughts are in changing to the 25 WSSM.
I forgot to include that I will be using to shoot Texas Whitetail.
I got bored shooting the 260 and I got the itch for a 25 WSSM, so I bought a Winchester/USRA 70 Super Shadow at the local Scheel's and found it to be a nice rig. 1 thing led to another and before too long the 1 Super Shadow had become a herd of WSSMs.
Everybody knows that the 257 Roberts launching a 100 grain bullet at about 3200 fps is close to perfect for shooting medium game, so a 25 WSSM is just sort of an attempt to duplicate or improve upon the Roberts' performance. My excuse is that it was either a slow day or a bad batch of Grey Goose.
Jeff
I would go 1 in 8 for sure, a .243AI will launch 105's at 3300 plus, without the WSSM headaches.

There is usually more than 1 way to get from here to there and if everybody took the same path, it would be too crowded. I like the 25 WSSM and even if many find it to be redundant, I don't mind redundancy, my rifle buying pattern is nothing if not redundant!
Jeff
It's your rifle, build what you like, for sure. Still like the 1 in 8 twist though!
