Hello all. This afternoon I purchased a new (well new to me) rifle. Well kind of It was at a non local gun store I had just stopped at 'cause I had a few min. so of course it had all kinds of nifty things. Only problem is here you have to have two forms of I.D. and I only had one with me so needless to say it is on layaway until I can get back up there in a couple weeks. it was a remington 600 with quite a bit of work done and the only markings were "GAMEHOG .284" on the barrel The deal was to good to pass up so I bought it anyway but I have no idea if it is a standard 284 win made by some company called gamehog or a wildcat or what, I would like to order dies etc but wont have the rifle in hand for a couple weeks so I can't do a chamber cast until then in the meantime if anyone has any Info on this it would be appreciated.
One of the names for the .350RM necked down (or 6.5RM up) to .284. Should slightly outperform the .284 Win. or the 6.5RM.

Fireplug
Fireplug please explain why it will out perform 284 as I was under the
impression maybe wrong that both cases held same volume of
water if both case made by same manufacture. am I in error ?
Cheers Northcountry

Here's a couple of drawings of each base cartridge. It seems the 284 is a little narrower at the base and shoulder, with a little more taper and a longer neck, but has a longer base to shoulder length due to its sharper shoulder angle. So the capacities should be real close with the edge probably slightly to the 6.5 RM, although probably not enough to make a big difference.
Shoot Thanks for the input, I had picked up somewhere that they both held the same amount of water
still don't if that is corect. will check it out this week my preference is alway to go for the beltless if
everything else is equal. Thankyou Cheers for now NC
Thanks fireplug, Looks like I'll be needing fancy dies again. Well won't be the first time. maybe I can just get some bushing dies for a 6.5 rem. and a special sized bushing, or maybe just bore it out to 7wsm. hmm I'll have to think on that one.
