I am dropping off my Kimber Varmint, at the gunsmith tomorrow, to have a Wildcat stock and the metal Cerakoted. As this is my coyote rifle, I was thinking of coyote tan, for the cerakote, and a similar muted color for the synthetic stock, olive?

Any thoughts?

Im a fan of the black webbing sprayed over OD,Gray,or even tan. If you get a nic or scratch on your stock it's easy to touch up w/black paint because it blends with the webbing versus a solid color. IMO

Ever tried to get webbing paint in Canada, or even some parts of the States? Not a bad idea, but for whatever reason, it is hard to lay hands on the stuff. Couldn't find it in Montana even.

Send your stock to Eddie or Karl. It may take a little longer than expected, but well worth the time.

You can purchase it at Fabric craft stores. Even check Canadian tire. Maybe someone from the states can buy a can & send it to ya. Pm me if you need help.

I have a 243 that I'm getting set up for next winter... Probably matte black metal with horse wrap as required and a light tan stock, eventually.

have a .250 savage lightweight project in the works, was going to get it painted something like my 7STW below, but was going with a lighter base color, maybe white for snow....havent decided for sure yet.

Has he done work for you before? I think him and ATR are the only ones doing Cerakote in AB?

As far as I know they are. No he hasn't done work for me before, but he did do the 2009 FNAWS rifle, and his work he had at the Calgary Gunshow looked decent. He also will cerakote the bolt shroud and Rick at ATR won't. He also is willing to fit a synthetic stock to the Kimber Varmint. Only other place that has considered it is Corlane, and I ain't shipping my rifle. I want it to be very plain to the smith what I want, no errors.

I almost made it there today. But there was so much slush on the road, and it was snowing so hard, the wife and kids pulled a mutiny at Red Deer. Of course it seemed much better heading home. Made them take some Bass Pro therapy.

Guys, considered white or heavy white snow camo, but with chinooks, we often have as much dried grass and stubble as we do snow, so my thoughts was a muted natural color (s). I can always add white hockey tape etc if required.

I think you are on the right track, colors wise. Instead of hockey tape we use 'vet wrap' from UFA. It just sticks to itself...

correctomundo.....it was a wood stock youth model that the kids outgrew, so I stuck it in a factory remmy tupperware stock and gave it to Mickey to tweak....factory barrel was very accurate so I didn't change it.

That 7STW is one mean looking machine. I like that camo pattern; never saw on like it before.
The recoil pad of the stock pictured went bad, so I sent it back to B&C for a new one. The stock was all black at that time. While it was in the B&C shop, they e-mailed me that the new pad was installed, for $19.XX, and then asked me if I wanted it painted while they had it. The cost they quoted was $37.50. I said yes, by all means paint it. I asked them what camo patterns they had, and they sent me a bunch to look at. I selected the one above, and I do like it, including the price.

Coyote brown, Coyote tan. I think I'd do them the same color or contrasting tans. Webbing? maybe or not. The first one is Coyote brown the second is tan with a matte clear coat to eliminate the shine. Ken

I would go Coyote Tan, then white webbing quite a bit with a little bit of black webbing over the top.

Finally decided to go for broke and dropped the Kimber off at Custom Gunworx on the 15th. The barrel will be trimmed 2" to 24", all metal ceracote coyote tan, and the Wildcat synthetic stock will be fitted and painted desert camo (looks similar to Weatherby backcountry stock paint).

Considered having it AI'ed, but $255 sounded more than the benefit I would receive, reduced case trimming. I don't need more performance than stock 22-250.

Robert gave a time line of about 3 months.

How much is the wood stock worth? Kimber 84M Varmint.

After 4.5 months. I finally have the rifle in my hands. Looks pretty good. Sorry for the poor photos.

Kimber 84m Varmint 22-250. Robert at Custom Gunworx cut the barrel to 24 from 26, Cerakoted the metal and mounted a Wildcat fiberglass stock. He used an un-inletted Remington Model 7 pattern Wildcat stock. The Varmint barrel does not leave much meat to the stock, but I'm fine with that. It closely matches the Model 7 Predator set up.

Thanks for putting up photos of the finished product, it looks about right to my eyes and hopefully it's the last thing many, many dogs will see.

Regarding the Wildcat stock, I'll be interested to know how you like it?

I've worked with Stuart on two stocks thus far, one for a Mauser that I own and one for a Model 70 for a chap in our church. Stuart was very good at communicating with me on both of them and I was very pleased with the stiffness and overall quality of the two I worked with thus far.

It was an interesting solution your smith came up with to fit a Kimber, I'll have to file that one away.

Finally got around to taking photos of the rifle since it was tweaked.

I did not like the look of the pad he had put on it, besides he left the length of pull too long even for my monkey arms. I also wanted a little more variation in the coloration.

As you can see, the last couple of years we have gotten early snows that have not melted away. Makes wish I had considered a white gun, but my theory was that a lot of the time patches of dead grass are intermixed with snow because of our chinooks, so tan is good.
