Personally, I'd go 6.5-300 RSAUM. For no reason other than I'm really liking the RSAUM case..

The 6.5 Rem Mag would be a fun project though. Either way, I don't see much bad.

6.5 RM tapers from .513 to .494 at the shoulder.
.300 SAUM tapers from .550 to .535
.270 WSM from .555 to .538

If it were me I would take the parent case (WSM or SAUM) and neck it down. Not saying it won't feed but I'd rather do that than run the risk of it not working properly or having to mess with a follower.

Doesn't take much for the bullet to end up against the breech face, etc.

IIRC Charlie Sisk likes to use the WSM actions for building the 9.3 BS as they feed slick with now mods to the action.

I think a 6.5 Rem Mag build would have mucho cool points.

Personally, if I had a hankering for a 264 SA I'd just neck down the WSM or better yet the SAUM. I remember Big Stick always saying the Remmy 700 SA worked better with the SAUM than the WSM but that'd probably cause he only runs the 162 AMAX and the standard Remmy mag box don't let you seat bullets out far enough for the mag box w/o intruding to much on powder space in the WSM case. Best to find a smith who knows WTF he's doing regarding feeding or you'll wind up with a single shot.

I'm wanting to ditch the WSM or SAUM case altogether. I've never gotten accustomed to shooting any of the belted magnum rounds and other "moderately" hard-kickers. I briefly owned one of the 7mm WSM left-handed Model 70s and sent it down the road and I don't think USRAC is ever going to give left-handed shooters any serious consideration in the future. The 6.5mm Remington Magnum seems like a good alternative to the WSM rounds and SAUM cousins since it's mostly a compact version of the 6.5-06. The left-handed WSMs still pop up for sale every so often for reasonable enough prices. Everybody wins.

You'll have all the room in the world in the Model 70 s/a.I looked at the 6.5 SAUM but since I had access to 300 pieces of 6.5RM brass and dies I went that way.I don't think I gave up anything as far as feeding or velocities go,my smith assured me he could get it to feed well in the 700S/A and apparently it does.I'm looking forward to playing with it! I would have no problem running a 6.5 Rem Mag for my hunting needs. Although, I could be swayed to go 6.5 Saum for the availability of Nosler, Norma and Rem brass for it.
