My 6x284 shoots great with Re#22 but I'm tired of having a winter load and a summer load. If 51grs of Re#22 behind a Sierra 107gr is its ideal load ? Where should I start with H4831SC ?

You can go to Retumbo which is an extreme powder. My 28" 6mm-284 had very similar velocities and accuracy with RL-22 or Retumbo and 107 Sierras.

the idea that R-22 gives radically diffferent performance at high and low temperatures is a classic marketing ploy by the folks at Hodgdon powder co. There is no real problem with it and I use it year round in many of my large capacity cartridges. Used it rather exclusively in my 6/284 when I had one, pushing 90gr Barnes original X bullets or 87gr V MAx's depending upon the game being sought.

They're about the same. Some guys have said the 06 might be a wee bit faster. If I can't hit my target at 3400 fps with a 107gr MK I sure won't be able at 3450 !.............. Love that Bible verse. He coming back soon !

Almost hate to post on this thread as the RL22 hater's seem to be chasing me here on the fire !!!!(JGRhoider etc)

That said RL22 is my favorite powder in 6x284 with 107SMK's.
if you want to switch H4831 has never worked for me in this combo and Retumbo has not either.

The substitutes that by far work best in this combo are VVN165 and H1000, honorable mention for IMR7828ssc.

I completely agree but it is not just Hodgdon, it is here on the fire worse !!!!!!

I've found swings in the so called "Extreme" powders as well. R22 is no worse IME.

R25 is a good one in the 6-06, but doesn't wear the fancy "Extreme" BS claim.

FWIW, I have had ammo loaded with R22 in Alaska and Africa with no troubles ever.

Well that's dang interesting. I'll lighten my load up a bit and continue with Re#22

I'm fairly well with you on this one as well. My first 6/06 barrel had a liking for R25 with the 95's.

The 2nd tube is a picky bugger but really likes H4831.

Gota roll with what she likes for sure. This tube actually perks quite well with H4831 under the 90NBTs.
