What is your most accurate rifle? How long did it take to find your pet load? Is it your favorite rifle?
I have an old Savage 23D in .22 Hornet. I worked on a pet load for over 3 years. It is my favorite rifle because, If I can see a golf ball I will send it again. I love seeing a golf ball about 75 to 120 yards out and then, SEND it!
SAKO AI 6mm PPC
Was working up a pet load a chore?
XR100 20 VarTarg Enjoyed working up loads with a besst of .084 for 3. Too heavy for favourite bt dynamite on rabbits.

Von Gruff.
simple, my Remington 700 VSC in .223 Rem.

i worked up a load or two based on book specs just to start and shot two really small groups...

XR100 in 22-250, bone stock it shot in the .1s-.2s with several loads. Is it my favorite, nope, rarely shoot it. Pet load only took a few range trips, but it shoots damn near anything quite well. Toss up between the 52AMX or 55NBT pushed by 32.5g AA2015BR for pet loads in it.
Here's mine - its an absolute hammer!!!! (It wears a S&B PMII 4-16x50)

My Blaser K95, in 270 Win. It will shoot .5" groups. That's honest groups, not "INTERNET" groups.
Mcwhorter custom 6.5 x47 lapua. Shot a 3/8" group at 300 yards last week . Still shooting the first load I threw together. 139 scenar and 41.5 Grs of h4350 cci 450 primers
22-250AI vanguard. 8 twist Douglas #3 chopped at 23". Mickey Coleman smithed. Just always works and never was very picky.

My 90 year old Savage 23D cost me 220 bucks with dies.
Let's see...... hhmmmmm.... That would be my wifes M12 Savage 223..... no, MY savage M12 in 223.... NO WAIT... either of my CZ 550 vasrmits in 22 250...uh, no... my new 280 AI heck, I ain't just sure !! WHAT WAS THE QUESTION AGAIN ??
My Rem 700 223 AI that Pac-Nor put together for me in 1997. My Ruger M77 250 AI runs a close second.
My 243 Sako Forester will shoot 5 rounds inside a sloppy hole@100 yards. Load development was easy. One trip to the range with 4 different loads. All just off the lands using 95 NBT. 5 rounds of max and 5 rounds a half a grain less and so on. Stumbled into perfection a half a grain less than max. No pressure signs. Done.

To be honest the guys in the reloading forum saved me a ton of time pointing towards the right powder. H4350.
My 260 Rem will average well under 1/2 MOA for 10-shot groups. But did I mention it's my 17 pound F Classer? smile

[Linked Image]
Triple Deuce. Shot a couple groups in the mid .2's, but now she needs a new tube.
Some good rigs in this thread!

This one is my most accurate rifle, although it shoots best beyond 100yds. Minute of Skoal can groups are fairly doable at 400yds. Pac-Nor 1-8" twist 223AI with moly 75gr VLD and RL15 in the lands at 3,050fps.

[Linked Image]

This old Varmint Special 223 of my father's has always been super easy to shoot well. I bedded it in a VLS handle a few years ago. Many groups in the .2's and .3's at 100. I've shot some good groups at 400yds when the wind lays down (see that last cluster of three below). Not bad for an old factory barrel. The load is moly 50gr V-Max in the lands with RL10x at 3,400-ish.

[Linked Image]
My most accurate is a Kimber Classic Varmint in .17Mach 2. It literally shoots one hole groups. Most accurate big bore is my Mdl 770 SS classic 375H&H. I have one 20 shot group that measures .7. That's correct 20 shot group. My Mdl70 257 Roberts consistently shoots under 3/8ths.
[Linked Image] Eddie Fosnaugh built 284 Win.
My. 257 wby. It is the first custom rifle I had made to my specs and I love it. She is not a .1 or .2 gun at 100 yards, and reloading for her was a chore, took about 100-125 rounds before I found my main hunting load. Now, when it gets pointed at something, something dies. I LOVE the confidence I have with the rifle, that is priceless. I've used in in Africa, Arizona, New Mexico and my little brother has take his first elk and first deer with it. By far my go to rifle.

Once the rounds settle down, it shoots pretty well. This is at 510 yards, prone with a bipod.

This one.....right now anyway. This barrel has 2000+ rounds through it and hasn't been cleaned in over 300 rounds. It was never "broke in" either.
I'll have to get a pic of the fence post, meaing the rifle looks like a fence post... cool

It's a 788 Carbine in 7/08 that I have Weavers on and a 3-9 Burris.

I'll say three things about it:

One=it's loud (18" tube)

Two=it's scarry accurate and bug holes are the norm when I'm not having a Monday

Three=it's uglier than a bucket full of butts

But, it just doesn't matter what I run down it, to cluster 3 is pretty much the norm. Hmm, and I have a whole 250 bones in the rig.

As for break it, pretty sure that happened when it was drug behind my Honda horse for a few miles.

Like it says on the target, .260 and 130 VLD's.

Ordeal? Hardly....that rifle shoots everything like that. I'm really not much of a paper puncher. That rifle has killed more coyotes than it has put holes in paper....
I don't have any heavy barrels as we have little use for them in this neck of the woods.

My most accurate rifle, CZ 452 Lux. This is one of the most accurate .22's I have owned period.

Centerfire: Ruger 77 MKII in 7x57. It shoots 139 hornady's with H4350 into consistent 1/2 MOA, 5 shot groups. Best 5 shot group so far was .424". This is the most accurate factory rifle I have owned, shot, or personaly seen shoot groups that small in a big game caliber.

I did eventually replace the trigger but have not improved the groups since the swap. I really do not think I can shoot any better than that without much bigger glass to aim it.
Mine is a sporterized Remington built 03-A3 in 6mm-250 w/ a Sako barrel & Fajen stock built by Tennessee gunsmith HW Creighton. I picked it up here several years ago for a song because it had been neglected. While I was waiting for the rifle to arrive I scored some dies and built loads. Imagine my surprise when this was the first 3 shots I got on paper using a cheap scope:

[Linked Image]
These are 75 gr Horn HPs, RL15 & CCI-250 primers; since then I've found it'll shoot 90 gr NBTs w/ RL15 as well as moly'd Speer HCs w/ RS-Hunter (FAST!) pretty well:

[Linked Image]

I refinished the stock and had the barreled action bead-blasted & parkerized, and topped it w/ an El Paso Weaver K6 purchased here as well. Running IMR4895 & 60 gr Sierra HPs I get even better groups than those above, but woodchucks don't seem to like it very well smile :

I also have a CZ 22LR but in the 453 variation. Retarded accurate to say the least. Ive said it before in the rim fire forum. Easily one of the best values in the industry.
Oh crap... there is this Vangard in 257 Roy that I traded into here:

I've never drunk the mono-metal kool aid, but found a deal on 100 gr ETips here and decided this was the rifle/cartridge to utilize monometals in. The first time I was out to the range the lower left (2 shots) and center (3 shots) were the first load I put together using the very wise & precise instruction I received in the big game rifle reloading board here:

They later chrono'd 3575 fps.

Makes me wonder how well it would shoot with a proper cleaning! wink

My 6.5x47 by Robert Gradous. I have a safe full of custom rifles all built by the best well known gunsmiths and Robert beats them hands down. Besides building a great rifle he is one of the nicest person you will ever meet. Save yourself some money and learn from the $1,000s I have spent on finding the perfect and most accurate rifle by giving Robert a call. He has the parts ready to go for my next one and we are already talking about a 3rd build. David

Some choose paper (wood,) some choose plastic. Toad want to sell the boat paddle? laugh Not really into plastic, but I always wanted one of those. Ever get the total weight on that one?
the Ruger weighs 8# 2 oz. not for sale. (i have a 77/.22 in SS/skeleton stock also). i'd like to buy/build a .416 Ruger in one of these also.

Nothing to hang your head in disgust over.

It takes a substantial outlay, huge amounts of time, and being a bunch anal at the loading bench to gain a little more accuracy and consistency............

The other gun was for the Light Gun class.

This is my Heavy Gun 6 Dasher.....

It shoots too....10 shots in 4.213" at 1K:

I suppose my most accurate rifle was a 788 in .223. No targets to show you, no pics of the rifle, sold it long ago, but it was, with the Zeiss 6x scope I put on it sudden death out to 250 yards on coyotes. In the six or seven years I shot with it I do not recall missing one at any distance under about 250 yards. In one of those fits of needing something new I sold it and got a genuine varmint gun. Big mistake on my part.
Mine would be my McMillan G-30 Legacy in 30-06. Last time I shot it, it grouped three 175 grain Barnes LRX's into .640"....at 300 yards.

Chet
Savage Model 16 in 204 Ruger shoots cloverleaves at 100 yds with factory, Hornady 32 gr V-Maxs. The local groundhogs don't think it's funny.

It wears a 4.5-14x44 Zeiss Conquest.

donsm70
Mine is my M7 243. It now sits in a BC Medalist stock. Adjusted the factory trigger, painted over the "predator" camo.

It likes 58 gr V/Z-Max and 87 hr VMax. All other loads were still sub MOA, but these are one hole-er loads.

[Linked Image]

Load pictured is the 87s. I can't find a pic of the 58s.
My most accurate rifle would easily be my CZ 527 .22 Hornet. Load development consisted of using a powder I already had on the shelf, Li'l Gun, a bullet I already had and use in my .223, the 40 gr. V-Max and once fired Remington cases. I put it all together using 13 grs powder and seated the bullets out as far as the mag would allow. The results are 3 shot 100 yd groups ranging from .312-.400 with a MV just a hair over 3K.

The Dasher gives about 150 more fps without losing the BR's accuracy traits.....win/win.....
Scott that right there is a COOL rifle in a SWEET cartridge! As much as you hear about Hornets being tough to get to shoot, you don't ever seem to hear that about those CZs! You got a keeper!
Cant believe this thread has gone on so loooong............for short range up to 300yds, hands down it is the 6PPC (how many times does it have to be proven ?????)......get a rifle that will shoot it well and you will be the most accurare rifle and shooter.
The question wasn't what's "the" most accurate rifle. It's what is YOUR most accurate rifle. Everyone likes rifle and target porn.
10.5 lb Light Varmint.

No round has been able to hang with the 6mm PPC for under 300 yard shooting since it came out back in the 70s.
Some are close.
But the PPC still rules.
