Gents,

By all accounts Brux barrels shoot very well (all barrel makers make a good barrel). How are they on delivery? Whatever the wait is doesn't particularly bother me, so long as it's 90% dependable.

Was thinking along the lines of a 6mm BR.

Any reason to use Bartlein or Krieger instead?

Have all three...although never ordered through Bartlein.I think the wait time is about a year.

I ordered a Brux 270 barrel and had it 8 weeks later...I think Kriegers are about a 16 week wait.Based on ewhat I have seen from Brux(friends have several) I would just as soon have one as the other among the three.

Greg Young at Bugholes.com stocks brux barrels. He may have what you are looking for with no lead time.

Brux barrels are great. I've had a number of them.

What contour and twist are you thinking of?

I ordered a Brux about a month ago. They told me four month wait.


I am over 7 months now for a Krieger 6.5 tube although according to them last week it should arrive any day.

I would like the finished rifle (scoped) to weigh 8 to 8.25 lbs. I'm thinking a Stiller Predator single shot action, maybe a Manners EH3 stock. Likely a VX3 or FX3 scope. If I want the rifle to finish around 8 lbs, I think I have around a 3 - 3.25 lb allowance for the barrel.

I'm thinking a #3, 8 twist, for 105s. Maybe Bergers, maybe Matchkings or Custom Competitions. Won't be a 1000-yard gun, more likely sitting/kneeling/standing/prone range/practice/walking varmint gun. Probably 500-600 yards max range mostly.

I was also thinking a .272 neck, 0.090-0.104 freebore 6 BR reamer, probably PTG.

Why the single shot action?

Pacnor is at about 14 weeks according to my order placed today. Keep surfing bugholes as noted.

Joel-I've ordered two barrels from Brux. I'd have to look at my notes to tell you the exact dates for sure. But, if I recall right both told me 90 days to delivery and as I recall both times they were ready to ship 7-10 days b4 they said they would.

Joel, PM me if you want. I know Greg does not have a #3 brux in stock, but I happen to be holding that exact blank (#3, 1:8 twist Brux) that I was getting set to list tonight for sale.

FWIW, I had a light 6mmBR that I used in Wyoming for antelope last year. Fantastic performance out of the 105 Bergers (as OregonMuley will attest).

Because at the range I mostly load single shot anyway--I just put the ammo container (MTM boxes) next to me as I shoot. Granted, when standing I have to bend over and get another round, but that gives me time to reset for the next shot. Theoretically I think they're a bit more accurate also, but the biggest limitation there is me.

I also hear 6 BRs are feeding challenge from a mag.

And I'll have a 25-06 and a 30-06, so no real "need" for another hunting rifle. Now, I realize "need" has really no bearing on bloodying a rifle, but I really like my 30-06. I almost can't imagine hunting with a different rifle. However, a 7.5 lb scoped 30-06 shooting 180s isn't an ideal range gun!

Right on, I see where you're coming from.

Personally I would go with a mag because the option is there - can still single load if desired.

I ordered a couple of Brux barrels 2 weeks ago, at that time Norm gave me 14 weeks. We will see.

I understand where you are coming from but here is some food for thought. More than likely you will not see any measureable difference in accuracy from the stiffer single shot action and it would limit its use if you decide to later rebarrel it to another cartridge. If it were me, I'd order the action set up as a repeater and just use a single shot drop in tray. That leaves your options open. Just my two cents.

I would consider the 105 A-max a slam dunk for what you're trying to do especially considering low cost and more than enough for varmints.

Also, with the A-max's the 1-9" would work well although I've never tried an 8 twist.

Joel, like the others, I would rool with a repeater action, only if to provide you options. I single-loaded mostly, but it was nice to be able to drop a round or two in the magazine if need be.

1:8 is where it's at on a 6br shooting 105-class bullets. I shoot some AMAx's, but have found them to be generally much less consistent than the Bergers. For flesh, they work just fine, but if eeking out the most from your rifle I would look Berger 7 days a week, twice on Sunday, and let the AMAXs keep your reloading component shelves occupied.

No reason to use Bartlein or Krieger unless that is what you want. Brux barrels shoot extremely well and when they give you a delivery time, they are pretty darn close from what I have seen.

The Brux boys are spot on with there delivery times and they will stand behind there product....
