Looking to see what you guys think of a few custom paint jobs I am considering for my new rifle currently being built. The McMillan has a red decelerator pad on it & the cerakote on the rifle will be graphite black.

Let me know what you think!!

None of the above...

For a camo scheme, I would go black pad.

A shiny red pad on a camo stock seems counter-intuitive.
sounds like you need a nice olive green stock, the colors will look great together.
The red Decelerator will have to dictate, somewhat, the stock color. I would go with brown or something that wouldn't clash with the red pad. Winchester used them but their walnut stain always had a red tinge.

This is getting into color wheel stuff. I generally leave all that up to my wife. Ladies tend to have a good eye for such.

I've got a brown with black spec edge on order (red pad). Copied from Oregonmuley, grin!

If Oregonmuley says it's Kosher, then it's Kosher... cool

I think graphite black for the stock a long with the metal work would look great.

Someone here has a Mauser w/ Bansner, red decel, and this paint. Can't remember who but it looks great. I know you asked about camo, but I wouldn't do camo w/ red though I can't say exactly why?

I like it cuz it's textured for good grip.
I'd go solid brown or black with a red pad. It's sexy enuff.

Place one of your red tampon pads against the stock to help you decide.

The desert gap camo looks really nice.
I'm thinking either the HTG Forest camo for an "old school" Marine Corp look or the Desert Gap which is kind of unique!!
Why not change the pad and get the stock colors that you really want?

I wanted the red decelerator pad & just have to decide what color I want the stock painted!!!
Brown with graphite black speckles would look nice.
The Marine Corps probably didn't know what they were doing. If you insist on camo with a red pad, I'd go Forest Camo or some derivative thereof (original M40A1 smear pattern shown) and call it good.

Thats the exact look I was going for!!

I actually ordered & got the Forest Camo, but the gel-coat came messed up on it from McMillan and it needs painted.

No more gel-coat finishes for me - paint'em all!!

Way to go Oregonmuley, now I'll have to get something different!!

LOL!!
what happened with the gelcoat?

Some significant sanding marks & a couple small chips in gel-coat right outta the box from McMillan.

No structure issues, purely cosmetic, but after 5 months of waiting and roughly $500 it just pizzes me off!!

If I could find a Manners stock that fit me well, I would never use another McMillan!!
My bet is that they would put you on the fast track to make it look better. Filling voids with like-colored epoxy and making sure the sanding marks aren't actually gouges should be part of their quality control.

You'd find something wrong if someone backed up to your house with a dump-truck-load full of money and dumped it on the driveway.

Strap it on and go shoot szchit, Nancy.
Well no scheeit, he wanted the pile dumped in the BACK yard.

What did McMillan say when advised of the problem?

Good shootin'. -Al
EdM - Nice rifle! What are the details? Looks kinda like how I want my 416 Ruger to end up. If I ever get back to the project that is........

A NH Safari Express in 416 Rem with Wisner front and rear sights, McM magnum fill "Express New" stock, Michael Sherz scope bases with Talley rings, PTG aluminum bottom metal and the bolt handle sleeve welded to the bolt body by Dan at Accu-Tig. Lost 1 1/2# over the original rifle, feels and shoots great. Very pleased.
Beautiful rig Ed. If it were mine I'd not change a thing. wink

I ain't. I thought about cutting the barrel back to 21 or 22" but it lobs 400's at an mild 2250 fps which is plenty for buff and is not a pounder in the recoil dept. I figured keeping the 2 or 3" was free fps. The only changes I hope it gets are some dings here and there wilst chasing buffalo in the future. smile
That duck hunter camo is cool.
None in the original post, they're all so 70's. I like the brown w/black speckles. If I bought a custom stock and it came out of the box anything but right, I'd be sending it back too.
