Finally got the McMillan Classic Edge I ordered in May. And it ended up lighter than I expected at 7 lbs 5 oz with VXIII 3.5-10x in Talley Ltwt's.
Specs:
No-prefix 700 action
Bolt fluting/lightening by Kampfeld
Chad Dixon truing/etc.
#3 Brux fluted and cut to 23" with 5/8x24 threads
Sniper Gray Cerakote
Stock is Gray with Black specks
Very nice. About the perfect weight
Looks good, post a photo of the barrel.
Thanks. Flutes are deep. I had to change my stock order from a gelcoat KS to an Edge Classic because they left 2" of shank versus the 1" I requested. But it turned out good and balance is very good with balance point at the forward edge of the front action screw.
It looks good but does it shoot?
Bet it shoots as good as it looks !

If it's as good as my other 2 Dixon rifles, it'll shoot. I can't wait to get it out to the lease. Unfortunately, I just moved and all of my reloading stuff is in boxes. But I have a good supply of A-Maxes and Rel 22somewhere!
Chad builds a fine rifle. I like mine!

Which chamber reamer did you use 280 Rem AI or 280 Improved SAAMI?

Supposed to be SAAMI.
Can't wait for mine... about a month from done
Nice stick!
Huh...weighs about 3 oz less than mine, similarly configured. My Rock #3 barrel isn't fluted, could explain part of the difference. And my bolt handle isn't hollowed. And whatever--mine balances great as configured, I'm sure yours does also.
Looks good with the sniper grey Cerakote--I wondered what grey with black specs would look like with "other than stainless" colored.
Stainless with grey/black specs:
A-max's & 22 is a great place to start! I am sold on Brux barrels. I have one a 243AI and one coming on a 223AI.
enjoy your new toy!
Damn, very nice! I bet it'll shoot real good. What you going to feed it?
162 A-Maxes as long as they last.
The 280 AI is really picking up steam. Well done sir!
Prefect deer rifle. Nice job!
I'm not much for barrel flutes, but I like this one.
All around nice rifle!
Nice rifle Man... I really dig that Cerakote color.
Well done rifle! That is the best weight for me also with a 280AI all up--7.5#. Nothing with 4 legs is safe...
Very nice looking rifle!
I'd be very upset with 2" shank. Even more so if I asked for a certain length.
Try some H4831SC under those A-maxes........

Same here. This is my only rifle with fluted barrel. I will probably not do it again. But thought it would be cool to have one.
Very nice looking rifle!

Ahh. Life's just too short. I'm pleased with the weight and balance, so I'm good with it. And since it's cerakoted and I'd lose an inch of barrel length if the barrel was set back, I didn't make them fix it. They offered, but I didn't want to mess with it. And the stock actually turned out nicer than I think the KS would have.
Oh you're right and it's a sweet rifle. Life is way too short to worry bout how long of a shank we have...haha.
On the above H4831sc note.....say that's a good powder under the 162's?
Beautiful rifle, you will love the 280AI. I restocked my 280 AI with a Micky Edge this year and I love it. Took about 8 oz. off my previous set-up but still balances well.
Like that one a bunch. Very well done.
That a cap on the end of the spout? (last pict)
257, I don't know about the 4831 under 162's but it works wonderfully under 150 NBT. When your 162's dry up don't back away from the 150's, they will spoil ya.

Yes. Threaded. I thought I might use a suppressor with it. Not a fan of muzzle brakes.
Very nice indeed! Didn't want to drop it into one of those original KS's you have?
Let us know how well it shoots! Looking forward to hearing!

The shank was too long for the KS's skinny forend. But I'm very happy with the Edge Classic.
I can't wait to see how this one shoots !
If it shoots half as good as it looks, you're onto a winner!!!
Nice stick. Id be slummin 140NAB and VV N165.

Ahhh, yeah. For me anyways.

That just looks like the perfect deer killin machine. Nice build!
Looks nice. What can are you gonna screw on?
I've got an AAC 7.62SDN-6. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet.
Let us know how it works with your rig. I've got one of those "on order". Hope to have it by Christmas.
I've used the suppressor..just not with this rifle. I love it. Mostly with 223AI and 22-250 whilst shooting prairie dogs.
Nice rifle though I would have thought it would weigh less. Is that the bare weight, no ammo or sling?
Bareyes. I thought it was pretty light with the 3.5-10. I guess I should weigh just the stock..I'm sure the Classic Edge weighs more than the Hunter's Edge.
Try some H4831SC under those A-maxes........
Very good suggestion!!
My 280 makes one hole groups with H4831SC.
