Saw this listed under their in stock inventory. Anyone know anything about it or order one? Looks shorter then the compact?
I like the looks of it- a lot!
Looks like the Rifles Inc blank for the Strata & the Lightweight.
Looks good but right handed only.

Yes, very disappointing.

Interesting that the weight is still around 24oz - no lighter than the Hunter's Edge (compact)
Looks very close to the Rifles, Inc. Strata stock indeed - subtle differences but thought it was a copy. I would have thought you would have got some weight savings with the shorter forend, or perhaps they are listing heavier and it will come in lighter.

Could make a faux Strata to go along with the real one I got. Tempting...

Looks like my MPI Dakota-style stock.

I suspect you could order one for a left hand action, it's just that the stocks available for sale there are right handed 700s with bdl inlet and woodland transition camo.
Sure looks like a Rifles Inc.

Pendleton composites also makes a similar stock - their "ultralight"

That looks like it would be spiffy on a mountain rifle barreled action.

I sent McMillan an email asking if it was possible to special order the Mountaineer with a Left Hand Inlet... Response:

"Unfortunately the mountaineer is only an online store item and they are inlet for right handed remingtons."

I could understand if they did not want to carry inventory in Left Hand. But, find it curious that they won't even entertain an offer for paid custom work. I would think the flip from Right Hand inlet to Left Hand inlet would be relatively simple on a CNC machining center...

I just got off the phone with Mcmillan.....turns out these were a run of 40 stocks for Rifle's Inc., who decided on a different stock. Mcmillan is trying to sell off this run, and if they sell well, the stock may be put into regular production. Otherwise this is a one time deal.

So no custom orders as of now. Looks like other inletting options (ADL, LH) would likely be available if the stock becomes a regular production item.

I wish Mcmillan would advertise these things a bit better. Kind of like the KS, which didn't get many orders.....because unless one was a member of 24hourcampfire who frequented the Custom Rifles & Wildcats subforum, you probably didn't know the KS was still being made!

Thus, we should all get to ordering these Mountaineer stocks so Mcmillan can make them a regular production item! Or perhaps Darik or Rick could buy the lot and get them sold?
Looks like they have another color option out now. Have no need for one, but the feaux strata has me tempted.

I am curious why Lex was talking to McMillan. As I understand it, his stock are built in house and weigh around 15 ounces and I know he uses a bit skinnier contour than the regular Remington contour. Wonder if he is trying to expand into a larger market with semi-custom stratas?

.......

Ouch... I guess 40 isn't a huge run, but still not something McMillan wants to be left holding....
Has anyone bought one of these or handled one? I think it would be a great stock for a lightweight backpacking rifle.
I actually like the new Kryptek hydro dip pattern. And at 24oz, it would be 3 to 4 oz lighter than my KS stock. Unfortunately when I checked with McMillan, they indicated the RH inlet stocks also have some cast off. Had contemplated getting one and opening it up for a LH action. Will wait to see if they do a true left hand stock with cast on...
