I need some info. I have been following an auction on a Mauser 98 in .250-3000 Savage. It is reputed to have been a custom gun done by Bliss Titus. The barrel is marked "B. E. Titus .250 Savage".

I have read some about Mr. Titus here and other places. I know he was both a barrel maker and a gunsmith.

Were his barrels marked one way and his custom guns another? In other words, would this Mauser 98 actually just have a Titus barrel and not actually be a custom rifle produced by Bliss Titus?

I have read he was well known for his work on Savage 99s but did he also work with Mauser 98s?

Thanks for the help.

John

If the maker and chambering stamps are all one line, done with.the same stamp, I would imagine Mr Titus both mafe and fitted the barrel.

I never heard of him doing any stock work,.but many famous stockmakers fitted wood to metalwork with his barrels installed.
