Are looking for after-market stainless BDL style bottom metal or just the silver colored factory alloy bottom metal?

If factory, check eBay.
Aftermarket solid stainless
PT&G is what I've used. Most of mine are aluminum and cerakoted although you can get them in stainless if you want. I don't see a reason not to use aluminum if it's going to be cerakoted, that's an extra 6 oz or so you don't have to carry around.
PT&G aluminum is hard to beat for the money
Hawkins precision over PT&G
Is the PTG machined from solid aluminum like the Hawkins unit or is it pot metal like the oem?
PTG is machined, I still like the Hawkins unit better
The floorplate on my 700 SS Mountain Rifle appears to be cast and possibly sandblasted
which mcmillan stock do you have....I have found the obendorf style bottom metal to not fit as well as the standard remington in some of mcmillans stocks....you can get either model from PT&G the hawkins only comes in the obendorf style to my knowledge

Gene, you are correct.
Remington classic...how would this fit?
PTG for me. I have the SS model. Have not tried others.
Nice thing about PTG is you can get the canoe bottom metal option (basically a slightly lower floor plate) which gives both you one extra round plus a little more room to spare so everything feeds a little smoother. In 30-06 sized cases it's sort of a +1.5. I've got them on a lot of guns. Holding 5 instead of 4 is sort of nice, though I've only been in a few situations where I wanted a fifth round, or even a fourth round, I guess. But the bigger thing is that you get the extra round and some extra room to boot.
I just got some Sunnyhill SS bottom metal for R700 types.

I have not hunted with it or chambered the barrel yet, but it seems very well built, albeit heavy.

To got with it, I think I also got a Wyatt mag, follower, and spring.

The stock Remington BDL bottom metal is thin Aluminum alloy, but with lots of rifles that I hunted, it never let me down.

Yup, the factory BDL bottoms are lightweight and dependable. I'd just get one bead blasted and coated with the rest of the rifle.
Big fan of the 700s...all I own any more but their factory bottom metal is garbage.

That's funny, cuz I've owned many, many 700s over the last 30yrs and not had a single problem with the factory BDL bottom yet.

What problems have you had?
I like the factory as well. There is no stress on this part and it is super light. Bead blast and coat with your rifle.
It’s functional...buts it’s low quality. Not my jam...like a plastic stock.

I spoke to pt&g and ended up buying their aluminum oberndorf. 7071...very close to titanium according to them and as strong or stronger than their steel. Haven’t received it yet...looks like second week in September unfortunately.

If your lucky.............
I have a 700 long action with a Williams stainless bottom metal fits great with a McMillan classic.
Heavier but I really like it.
Anybody have a link to Hawkins? powdr
powdr, for chrissakes - google "hawkins bottom metal". crazy

Love the Williams and have 2. Make Sunny Hill look cheap quality but as a result aee no longer a available in stainless
Go with Williams and have it coated.
I have a stainless Williams unit and its awesome, but it has still rusted in the nooks and crannies of the floot plate release, hing etc.

I have a brand new Williams stainless for a Rem 700 LA in the classified guys! Perfect condition and extremely high quality.
Hawkins or Badger M4.....done!!!
Second week in September has come and gone...they arrived today and I got them installed. Very nice and I see why everyone thought I was nuts for wanting steel. They fit great with a thin washer needed only under the front screw. The black anodized was a good match to my cerikoted guns...looks like a big improvement over OEM.

Very happy...Thanks guys!
