Not sure if it was his favorite, but it was also one of Rusty Wallace’s sayings when he would take the lead late in a race.

Wow! That is impressive especially the hybrid jackets holding up to that much speed.

Super impressive

What is the twist, what powder are you using?

How many rounds do you shoot before it requires cleaning? I played with a 6mm-264 and discovered the fouling built up very quickly causing changes in performance. It was an experiment with a rechambered 26" Remington takeoff 243 barrel. Realize a new Bartlein would work better......

I remember Ross Seyfried making a 6mm-264 and having an issue with a hard carbon like substance building up on the first barrel due to not cleaning it every dozen rounds or so. IIRC he had to throw away that first barrel.

Nothing like a fast 6mm. Currently have two 6mm-284s. One shoots the 105 Berger @ 3425 fps, 26" barrel Other a lightweight varminter shoots the 55 gr ballistic tip @ 4100 fps.

You have created a true velocity monster with incredible downrange performance! Almost a ton of energy at 500 yds with wind drift 8.1" at same distance in 10 mph crosswind! (4000 ft)

7.25" twist. Currently using H-1000, but I did try R-26.

While I haven't stretched this one too far, I have no problem running a bunch of rounds between cleanings. I do shoot moly plated bullets, but don't have any problems keeping this one clean with my normal routine of Bore Tech Eliminator and a little JB every time. I have a Hawkeye borescope, so I know what works.

I've had two or three 6-284's with 8 twists in the past, so I knew what I was getting into.

Going to be hard to leave the big & little 6.5's home, they've treated me too well.......

That’s so nice I’ll put in first dibs on the barreled action. Be a heller of an antelope and mule deer killer....

Thanks for the details Alf,

I wonder how some of the slower powders would work. I am using RL-33 in that 6mm-284, bet it this powder would produce faster velocities.

That's a nice build. I like the 2b and stock combo. Very functional.

Nicely done, man! smile -Al

Wow. I thought 3200 with those 105's was speedy. That's another level of flat shooting there. Have you got any of the 110gr Sierras worked up yet?

The 110 Sierra was the bullet of choice that I originally was focused on, which is why I went with a 7.25" twist & the reamer was set for.

Turns out, I struggled with huge runout from the beginning that took a while to diagnose, so I may have to revisit them again.

Right now I'm at 2.875" OAL in the lands a bit with the Hybrids. Not sure where I was when new with the 110's offhand.

This gun was/is built as a 6.5 PRC. I went with the long action in the beginning so as not to be hamstrung by OAL restrictions of a short action, or added costs of detachable bottom metal. I just added this 6 PRC barrel to the mix.

Any plans for something on the 300 PRC case ? 😃

It doesn't interest me at the moment.

Too bad Hornady didn't do the PRC case instead of the RCM's back in the day. They could have cut a wide swath if they would have come out of the gate with 7mm, 300, and 338 versions.

Amen. The RCMs have for all intents and purposes, been a bust.

Update on Shazam.......

After early struggles finding a load, I put the project on hold, and screwed the 6.5 PRC barrel back on to get ready for deer season.

This week, with favorable weather in the forecast, I decided it was time to revisit the big six before winter showed up for good.

Reviewing my notes, I was at a loss on what to do next. I had a decent load with the 105 Hybrids, but wasn't happy with consistency, so I decided to give the 108 Hornadys a whirl.

I loaded up test loads with R-26 and H-1000. H-1000 was a bust, but the R-26 gave me hope. I raced home, loaded up 10 more rounds of 56 grains, drove back out, and shot two groups at 200. Wasn't real impressive, but......

I had 11 pieces of brass left on this cycle, so the following day I loaded them up, and drove back out to test at distance. I had been feeling that this barrel didn't like to get very warm, so I shot slow, and walked back & forth moving the target, so at 35 degrees, it was well cooled down for the next group.

Too bad the wind had got a little sporty by the time I got back to 450 yards. The target blew over twice while I was trying to find a log to weight it down. I couldn't spot the shots through the spotting scope either, as the mirage had kicked in as well. Pretty good showing regardless......I quit......

Thank you, I really need to open every thread up to see the light. The 6mmPRC is a little over my head at the moment, but sounds exactly like what I'm looking for once some of you guru's get it figured out.
