I posted this on the Mauser / Military sectoion, but it may be a better fit here. I'm looking to get a estimated value on what I think is a Paul Jaeger built rifle. It has a FN Mauser action, 26" barrel is marker Paul Jaeger Jenkintown Pa and it's chambered in 308 Norma Mag. It has a nicely figured wood stock, but it does have a few dings and scratches in it. The bluing on the action and the barrel are good but its faded on the bolt handle and gone on the crown of the muzzle. The underside of the bolt handle is checkered. I'm not sure of the round count. I have looked online and the prices are all over the place, i can text or email pics if that would help. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Definitely post pics here. You'll get much more information much more quickly.

What is the reason? Insurance, sale or trade? I have seen them go for 2,500+ and not sell at $1,500. You can send photos to a company like Champlain or Hollowell for an estimate.

Before or after he sold his business?

Sadly, I believe this to be an accurate estimate of value from your description, somewhere between $400 and $4,000. Really good pictures, with all the details, would be a big step towards narrowing this estimate.
In such rifles, there often remains a significant subjective impact on valuation, even after pinning down all the details.
I am helping an older relative reduce his collection. Some of his nicest custom rifles have never been hunted or shot much. They are bringing in less than half of what he paid just a few years ago, and often less than he paid for the stock blank. On the other hand, some of his old Winchester 94's are bringing in several times more than he paid for them. It is a fickle market.
LGS has a similar Jaeger to the one you describe in either 7mm Rem Mag or .300 Win Mag. It's priced at $1400 and has been sitting on the shelf for long enough to grow roots. And he's less than 20 miles from where Mr. Jaeger's shop stood, so there are a fair number of people around here still familiar with the name.

Were I you, I'd go to Morphy's auction site, go through some of the past auctions (including the Julia's auctions from prior to the merger) and see what they managed to get for Jaeger rifles.
This doesn't help but a friend had one a maybe 5 or 6 years ago, was in good shape (normal hunting use wear) had the Yeager detachable mounts, 30-06 I believe. Think it went for $500 thereabouts.
I tried to do some research on it and I think it was from when the shop was sold/changed hands or whatever happened there.
