Pretty excited about this as it turned out better than I expected.

I asked Shaen to Cerakote the bbl to match the Bighorn Origins Salt Bath Nitride coating and I'll be damned if he didn't absolutely nail it.

Looks fantastic if not better!

Only ran 5 fire form rounds down it so far as it showed up just prior to our 9 day late season deer hunt.

The .22 Creedmoor wasn't digging the McWalnut and with deer season fast approaching, I pulled it and put it back in the McM Hunter Edge fill that it was bedded to.

McMillan Hunter
PTG Stealth
Trigger Tech Diamond
6x SWFA MQ in DD's in the works (factory 20 moa rail and Vortex rings currently, waiting on 8x40 screws)

I have 100 rounds of 88/Lever form loads ready to go and the kids left just enough milk in the bottom of the jug to half fill a bowl of cereal almost.

You could say I got things covered.

wink
Posted By: Higginez Re: Shaen McWalnut - 12/03/19
This thing is shooting unbelievable!

I have 450 or so rounds down it and 75 eld’s with 27.6 gr of Lever in formed Rem cases is showing such tiny vertical I can’t hardly believe it.

Fast becoming a favorite.

Nah, I was up a few bucks up until a 1,325 yard Hail Mary almost put my family out on the streets.... 😜

Just glad I didn’t go home owing anybody money (cough, darrenk75b, cough)!

Great looking rifle great components. I hear nothing but great things on Shaen's work!
Posted By: Higginez Re: Shaen McWalnut - 12/04/19
Thanks MCH.

I did not expect this one to turn out as awesome as it did, mostly because I was just looking for a black bbl and didn't have anything particular in mind, but damn if the thing doesn't look like a blued rifle.

I'm throwing charges on the Dillon 550 and it's hanging right with my 6 Dasher out to 650.

It feeds like butter, shoots inside almost every rifle I own while cheap to shoot and practically effortless to reload for.

Shaen is a serious up and comer.

I should probably shoot some groups for BSA....

Good to hear. I write funny notes while working, and while I won’t repeat what I wrote, my prose indicates the barrel was very straight and uniform.

Hell of a nice looking rig, Higbean. Sounds like you've become a really big 223 AI fan.

Fast twist .223AI with a good bullet is an impressive combination to say the least.

What speeds are you getting with the 88s?

Higgy’s build turned me on to wanting an AI. I have one being spun up right now...Sometimes it’s just easier to follow success.

Thanks Higbean! 👍🏻😎

I haven’t messed with any 88’s in formed brass but was forming with them running a measly 2,600 fps with Lever.

That pig wouldn't be hanging down at the locker with a plain old .223

Needed the AI on this one.
Posted By: Tejano Re: Shaen McWalnut - 03/11/20
What's a 223 AI?

That stock is one of the nicer looking McWoody's I have seen, that one came together well in all regards.

Yeah Jud, .223AI doesn't disappoint.

Spotted this little guy at 1,100+ and put a kid on him.

Was a great time.

If that rifle didn't have a "beer belly" it would so much better . . . (sorry to find fault in my eyes)

Those magazines are FUGLY.

I changed my mind after using AICS mags myself and I totally understand where you are coming from.

Too dang handy to not have on a rifle for my uses.

Rather nice to throw a few mags in a pack and not have things rattling around.
Posted By: MuskegMan Re: Shaen McWalnut - 10/28/21

I understand the concept of function before form. The detachable mag has its undeniable function, but it ruins the lines on that otherwise beautiful Shaen masterpiece.
Posted By: Higginez Re: Shaen McWalnut - 10/28/21
They certainly aren't for the blued/wood guys..... smile
Posted By: Beaver10 Re: Shaen McWalnut - 10/29/21
Nice bucks, Higgy !

Glad you had the extra AI powder to push that 223 to the finish line.

223 never impressed me, but cool you turned a kid onto that buck. He’ll remember that the rest of his life. 👍
Posted By: Ndbowhunter Re: Shaen McWalnut - 10/30/21
that's a buck where score doesn't mean a damn thing to me. he's getting shot every time!

i'm the worst trophy hunter tho

if it mean mugs a guy too long, and i start thinking of mommas cooking, dirt nap and trucks pointing home!

75 or 88's for game?

75's were pretty splashy for me inside of 200. but they sure make good holes at distance
Posted By: Higginez Re: Shaen McWalnut - 10/30/21
75's but both the sow and buck were considerably farther than 200.
Posted By: Higginez Re: Shaen McWalnut - 06/11/22
Not quite as bad as the silver scope mistake, but getting kinda close!
