Turned out way better than I imagined. Will the 30BR feed in a BDL (Hawkins Oberndorf)? With the Bighorn SR3 controlled feed, It is one of the smoothest feeding rifles I've ever cycled, if not THE smoothest. Jon really got it figured out. Got a lot going but hope to shoot it this weekend.
Looks good....betting it shoots!
I like that a lot. What twist did you go with?
Clint, They just don’t come any better than Jon. He has built 2 for me and both are perfect.
Dam that is a great looking rifle and I am sure it is a shooter coming from Jon.

I soooo badly need to put you on ignore. I've ended up with 3 2.5-10x32's and just got a pair of APA rings. Please find a problem with the Bighorn action and post all about the problem and the problem only.....nothing about any good points on the action. I don't need another project.
Edited to add: Sweet setup!
Hot dang - that's a cool setup!
What's it gonna eat?
I like it....
Not a lot of chatter on the 30 BR, hope you have a stash of 4198.......

20 lbs which is equates to a little over 4000 rounds. That was the first thing bought when the build started.

H4198 (somewhere around 34 gr probably) and 125 ballistic tips. Can't wait to see what velocity it can achieve with a 19" barrel. I'll be happy with 2800 fps. Objective is a point blank range, accurate, quite, low recoil, deer thumper.

Jay, I've sandbagged a few builds. This is my third Bighorn SR/TL 3 action. Never say never but for now I wouldn't even consider another action. As for the APA rings, the .750s are the only picatinny option with a 30mm scope as far as I'm concerned. And the little NF isn't perfect but the closest thing I can find for a lighter weight rig right now.

Mike, good to hear from you, you've been laying low. Jon is the man. As long as he's building rifles, he's building mine.
I like it....

What are you going to use on the other half of the barrel life?

Exactly! Lots to like about the 30BR for a PBR rig.
Really nice, you need another barrel in 22BR for it as well though

I think you're on to something.
Beautiful rifle, I have two from Jon...tempted to call him again
H4198 and 125 BT
Found pressure at 31.5. Backed down to 31.0. Velocity out of the 19" barrel at 31.0 is 2750 with an ES of only 3 fps, per 5 rounds shot through the magnetospeed.
Crazy accurate, I'd be satisfied if it were 13 pound rig, and its only a 7 pounder.
Very well done. I'm a big fan of "different" builds to meet a purpose. That would be near model perfect for where I deer hunt here in IN.
Looks like a very fun setup. Been sitting on a few thousand 7BR brass for a while may need to spin up a barrel. 125TNTs should shoot good.
What Manners stock is that??
Gotcha!!
Very nice build.....I likey!!!
CT - how's this rifle treating you? I'm thinking about a truck gun with suppressor for <100 yard shots. Quiet but with enough 'umph'. I assume this is quite quiet relative to other suppressed rigs? I am new to this sort of stuff, be gentle LOL.
I LOVE the 30br. Best of all the variants to me...
Bringing this back up for the rest of the story when you have time Cool rifle and just curious what you think of it now. Thanks.
Got a full plate today but I'll update first chance I get. Spoiler alert, I have enjoyed this rig more than any other to date.
Beautiful rifle, I'd love to own it. Congratulations, have fun with it.
Just picked up a ULA in 30BR, included dies but now I need to get my hands on some brass. I bought it with the intention of rebarelling to something else, maybe a 250 or 250ai. We'll see if the 30BR bug bites first.
ctsmith - you still liking yours?
CTS looks like a great rifle! Enjoy your new 30 BR!
I have had a 30 BR SA 700 in a Remington laminate with a 22" bull barrel and a timney trigger for around 20 years. It is my test bed for any scope that is suspect. Have helped sort out many of my friend's rifles with it.
I find it the most consistent and easiest to load of all my rifles.
I ordered a reamer with a longer throat to shoot heavier bullets. Twist is 1 in 10. It primarily shoots 168 target bullets. It can shoot up to 200 gr bullets if I so desire.
Sierra has load data for the 30 BR from 125 to 200 gr bullets in some of their older loading manuals.
I neck up Lapua 6 BR brass and turn the necks so I can use a RCBS FL die with sizer ball removed with a .001" neck diameter difference between empty and loaded.
The current load uses 33.5 grains of IMR 8208 XBR with 168 Hornady fed 205 primer vel 2490
Thanks for sharing your load data and brass prep process.
What are the best powders for the 30BR? How is accurate 2200?
Just dug out an older Sierra loading manual.
125 SPT Sierra bullet:
VIHT N133 28.2 to 34 gr (max) vel 2750
RE-7 24.9 to 30.5 gr vel (max) 2700
Benchmark 29.6 to 34.8 gr (max) vel 2700
H322 29.2 to 34 gr (max) vel 2700
H4895 31.7 to 36.5 gr (max) vel 2700
IMR-4895 31.7 to 36.5 gr (max) vel 2700

Hunting load: 36 gr of H4895 vel 2700

Let us know how your 30br shoots.
Do you have any pictures of your ULA ?
Hal
Thanks so much for the load data. Seeing 4895 there makes me wonder if I could try TAC. Then again I may be able to find some LT-30. 4198 seems impossible to find these days.
No pics yet, didn't download any from the ad, rifle is on its way to me now. I'll be sure and post some. Think you might recognize it?
