Are profile and contour the same thing? I just watched a Brownell video that said profile refers to weight (presumably for a particular length barrel). That would mean that two barrels with the same outside dimensions would have different profiles depending on bore diameter. Is that actually correct? I believe I've also seen barrel diagrams where the outside dimensions were shown and that was said to be the contour without reference to calibers. These facts don't line up unless profile doesn't equal contour.
I'm not following, but to me they are the same. Any weight differences are due to caliber.
So, I have a 22 inch barrel that measures .650" at the muzzle. Can you tell me what contour I have from that information?
Not with out knowing who made the barrel. If its factory or a custom, not all barrels are the same even when the contour is the same. Like say a Lilja #3 contour isn't the same as a Brux #3 contour.
Unfortunately there are no markings on the barrel, not even the caliber.
Every manufacturer has a their barrel contour chart with all the dimensions posted on their website.

A tape measure and dial calipers will get you there.

Several use Douglas contour specs.

Thanks, by that chart I must have at least a heavy sporter, which makes sense as the rifle seems too front heavy for me.
