After 6 or 7 years of dragging my feet on this project, I finally got the wood to metal fit where I’m happy and can send The metal off for bluing. I can finally do the finish work on the stock, which is what I like. So with a a nice sunny day and a little dash of mineral spirits I wanted to get a look at the wood, which I haven’t done in years.
Husqvarna Mauser 6.5x55, Shilen barrel. Haven’t decided on recoil pad color yet.

Son of a bitch, what is wrong with photobucket? Been meaning to get rid of that garbage anyway. I assume no one can see the pics either?

Sure would like to, though.

There you go...nice liking stock you have there!

Remember a thread awhile back about rifles too pretty to hunt with. I'd say there's no such thing, but this is about as close as you can get. Beautiful wood and beautiful work.

Great looking stock!! Can’t wait to see it all done. Are you checkering it?
Posted By: Orion2000 Re: Sneak preview - 06/08/20
"Wow" would be an understatement. Nice stock !

Stunning figure and color.

So this is gonna be my wife’s gun. She was going to attempt to checker it, but for a first attempt she has now seen true wisdom of sending this on and working on something cheaper.

Thank you all for the kind words. We don’t see many like this these days, but I sure love seeing them and working on my own.

Beautiful color!

I wouldn’t do the checkering either. Way too easy to have a permanent dud. Oil finish yes!

Here you go smile

Show it again, checkered. Beautiful wood and work.

Evnin guys, it looks like ripples in the water, they look like there floating on the wood!!! Nice, WOW. BILL OUT. 🐾👣🇨🇦
Posted By: Ray63 Re: Sneak preview - 06/29/20
what are you going to use for finish ? Ray
Posted By: exbiologist Re: Sneak preview - 11/15/20
Revisiting this because the metal work is done. Bluer called, said there’s a minor thing to fix on the trigger, but should be on her way soon.

I haven’t done a thing to the wood since I took this but I plan to take an inch off the butt, and I think we are going with a red recoil pad.

I’ll be using laurel mountain forge finish. I’ve had good luck with it in the past

Mighty purty!

She’s now blued, with matching rings, bases and studs. Plus nitre blue on the trigger, safety spring, screws, and some other little bits for my wife. Scope is just a place holder to check my wife’s feelings in length of pull

Spectacular! Love the stock.

That is simply stunning. +1 for Fleur de lis checkering
Posted By: Ky221 Re: Sneak preview - 01/14/21
I like that. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
Posted By: exbiologist Re: Sneak preview - 08/27/22
Went with a 1/2 black recoil pad, cut the stock down slightly and then significantly thinned the forend.
Got the first coat of finish on last night. Only took me two years to do a couple hours of work.[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Got a ways to go as you can see how porous the wood is still

Holy crap, beautiful wood.
Posted By: exbiologist Re: Sneak preview - 08/27/22
A little more plus some shots from when I was [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]putting some water on the stock to dewhisker and decided I wanted to see it closer to the final product.
