Wanting to have a dedicated auto to turkey hunt with. I will be mounting a gobble stopped sight on it.
Any suggestions anybody has for a cheaper gun. Considering a tristar, anybody use one?

My niece shoots the Tristar Raptor and other than just the lightest of skeet loads it runs like a top, points well and is very light.

Why not an 1187? Barring that, a Franchi Affinity.

No way I would go with the Turkish stuff.

I'd look at the Franchi Affinity.

You might want to check our the Weatherby. Pretty good reports on it.

WHY? I'd at least find one with a chrome lined barrel if I were going that route and reloading TSS.

I think some guys on old gobbler are running that Weatherby.

This. Weatherby SA-08 or Mossberg SA-20. A buddy is running one of these, not sure which and loves it with a dose of Hevi-Shot.

A lot of similarities between the 2, in fact some parts will interchange.

I ended up with a 11-87 camo with a 22" barrel

The Weatherby SA-459 Turkey is a fantastic dedicated turkey gun IMO, but since it's made in Turkey I guess that disqualifies it for the "all Turkish guns are crap crowd".

OP good luck with your 1187. Hard to go wrong with one.

I got tired of the pounding of the 3 1/2 inch shells out of my SBE2, and decided go the 20 route. I wanted something as lightweight as I could get it, and still shoot good. I first tried a Charles Daly pump, very light, but junk. Got an 11-87 with 26 inch barrel, worked good, but just wanted something with a shorter barrel. So, I then bought a youth model 11-87 with 21 inch barrel, put a Indian Creek choke and red dot sight on it. Nice gun, but before I got to use it, my granddaughter latched onto it. I now use an 870 youth model, Weaver shotgun scope, and an Indian Creek choke. Using the 20 has been a little different experience, as most of the really good ammo is made just in 12 guage, but I've not had any trouble killing a turkey with the 20. In the 12's I always used Winchester Supreme #5's, in the 20's I've used Hevi-Shot, Winchesters, Federals, and Remington, trying to find one that was better than the others. Haven't found it yet, as any shell in #5 seems to work.

I've got an sumtoy 562-5 choke for the little 1187 but havnt had time to do much patterning work with it yet. I hope that gets what I'm after. If not I guess an ic 555 will be on the way

Have heard the Federal #7 Heavyweight is very deadly with super dense patterns.

Sumtoy 562-5 is the real deal from my 21" youth 870 using the Federal HW 7's and Hevi13 #6's

I have a WBY SA-08 with a TSS choke and it is bad news for about 9 turkey so far. I have only had it about 2 years so I hope that number will grow.

The Federal Heavyweight 3" #7 is the real deal. I've killed two NC Tom's and my Brother JOBUGG has probably killed 10-11 with them. They work!
