I have decided I need a Franchi 48AL 28 gauge and plan to use it on Turkey. I will be loading TSS in 9 1/2 shot. I have been very impressed with the success people have been having with these loads. I cant wait to try them out

That should be a sweet turkey gun . I would love to own one .

28ga might be the perfect gauge for a semi-auto turkey gun, now. It's going to take a few years for people to get used to that.

The ,410s are pretty impressive too. I am really wondering about how the .410 would perform out of the T/C Encore pistol barrel with TSS

I've hunted with a 20ga for years. Ran across a Rem 870 28ga. Good news is the 870s use the same frame as the 20ga in the 28 and .410, so all my stuff from the 20ga fit the 28ga. I didn't want to alter the receiver of the 28ga in case I ever decide to wing shoot with it, so I went with a B-square to attach the red dot. The barrel is a fixed mod. At 30 yards with TSS, it's plain nasty. Marginal at 40 yards, so I decided not to send the barrel off to get cut and threaded for chokes.

Here's the 1st bird I killed with it:

Took all the wood furniture off, and put a set of Remington Sure Shot 20ga stocks on it. Forearm is a little big, but it works. Plan on trying to kill a slam with it before I move on to the .410. Running 1 3/8 TSS #9.5 handloads.

Folks have been sceptical when I tell about killing them with a .410. The part people will have to get used to is that with the small tungsten shot, you're throwing a pattern that works as well as or better than we all used to use with lead shot in 12 gauges.

I like the idea of the 28 because you can get one on a frame as small as a .410, but you can have enough more shot to have a more forgiving pattern.

The shotgun is on the way and the TSS is on the way. Have to get the hulls and assorted items and get some loaded and go pattern it.

My grandson has taken three gobblers with his .410 and the same number with his mom's 20 gauge Orion. He is going on his next turkey hunt with his new Weatherby Orion 12 ga (had to buy it because he outgrew the Orion 20 ga.) and if his performance on clays is any indication, he will kill anything within 50 yards!

Bought an Akkar 300cy youth 28 ga pump for my daughter to use this spring. This will be her first time actually hunting herself. She is a petite almost-12 year old. It fits her well and is light so holding it up to her shoulder is not a problem. Tried a beautiful used 20 ga Browning BPS micro here at a local store - just to heavy for her, and I was concerned about going too light on a 20 ga.

We haven’t shot the gun yet, but seems pretty good quality for the price paid.

Can't use a 28 gauge here in Illinois, 20 gauge is the smallest gauge you can use. And lately, I'm having enough trouble hitting them with a 12 gauge, lol! New bifocals really screwing me up! Going to have to get a pair of glasses made up without them.

I had the same problem with bifocals. Get a pair of dollar store readers in different strengths until you find one that works and then have shooting glasses made. I used to chase gobblers in the Lacrosse area and fish at Rivers Edge in the Dells.
