Got too close to this bird last Thursday and he flew off the property off the roost. Third trip there this morning there were a couple birds gobbling by 5:15. I was set-up around 5:25 and this guy sounded off about 50 yards closer and twice as loud as the others it seemed. I waited until about 5:35 and hit the box call a few times. He gobbled and flew down and it was quiet for a few minutes then I could see his head about 50 yards out looking for the hen. He spotted my decoy and started strutting but there was a lot of brush and vegetation between us. I finally got an opening and took the shot and he flopped around and ended up in a little brook soaking wet and covered in silt.

Great hunt - home for coffee by 6:30..

Yeah, it's getting thick in the woods now. There's a little flat to the right where it's more open that I set-up in.

That's a good gobbler!! Nice. I killed mine last Sunday. Taking the better half out tomorrow, trying to get one to come in for her. We'll see.
