Horrible murder.. 105 years ago.

Two Lithuanian immigrants tried to extort money from priest. After he refused, they confronted him and ended up garroting him and shooting him in the chest 4 times. They then chased the housekeeper throughout the rectory and cornered her in the attic, and eventually subdued her and strangled her.

After threatening another priest elsewhere, the murderers were eventually caught after a running gun battle in Delaware. they were extradited to Connecticut, and hung.

The weapons used were "special order Savage automatic revolvers" (their phrasing, not mine) that were shipped to Krakas at his boarding house right before the murders. The brilliant criminals sent a page from the Savage pistol manual describing how deadly the handguns were to the priest in the extortion attempt in order to scare him. No idea what was meant by "special order".

The media even then didn't understand much about firearms. Nothing has changed in that regard. Looks like it happened during WW I based on the article on the torpedoed cruiser.

Montvid confessed to the police that he saw the other guy receive the shipment from Savage with the guns. That's how I ran across it.

England entered into WWI in 1914, the US entered in April, 1917.
