A nice 99T 300 just sold on GB for openers...$1050. 872093600 No extra holes in metal or wood. Very slight tang crack and some rust issues on butt plate. Wish I didn't have so many irons in the fire right now. If it was a member here, congratulations and best of luck with it.

I don't think I'd pay that much for something with a tang crack. My T was $700 and had a chipped heel, and I thought I probably paid too much. But it had the original front sight so I pulled the trigger.

Looks like it had the original sights, so can't see the price being out of line. Safe dings, but good shape.

Yeah, the front bead wasn't even faded out like a lot of them are. It would have been easy to stabilize and make that small crack disappear. Just came up at the wrong time for me right now. There will be others. There are always others.

With the sights it has on it worth every bit of 1050 IMO.

If it were mine, I wouldn't have sold it for less...

All of that being said above, if I were interested in buying that gun, I would have liked to have seen more pictures

T is a nice model IMO.

I'd be willing to bet that that crack is why it only got ONE bid. Compared to other models T's come up fairly often.

What's with the extra cross-slot cut into the bottom of the barrel? Isn't that the same slot used for a barrel band cross-screw?

I'd say this is priced right, according to it's scarcity and desirability, obviously it is priced right for someone; buyer and seller.

Yes, and we have seen examples of the cut on several previous threads.

...hmm, do some of the 99H BB barrels also have the bottom dovetail cut? Like they milled them to be interchangeable? Or are these T barrels just left over BB-H barrels?
Posted By: Longbeardking Re: Pretty Nice 99T - 06/29/20
I believe the consensus was they are leftovers.
Posted By: Calhoun Re: Pretty Nice 99T - 06/29/20
Have to admit that I missed the slot on the barrel. It is from the last year the 99H and 99T were catalogued, but it was the beginning of the year so I'm surprised they were swapping parts. Maybe Savage presumed 99H's in 300 Savage would sell better than they did, and so made up a bunch of barrels and had leftovers.

They probably just made one batch of 22" 300 barrels and figured if they put slots in all them they could use them for either gun?

Just a WAG

I must have been asleep at the wheel when this was posted/talked about. BUT, mystery solved. My 99 "T" serial # 4009xx has the same crosscut groove as GunBroker sold T shown. Always wondered why. The groove is 8 5/8" from face of action. Now I know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.

What is different from the model T to the model R? They look similar to me? Is it the barrel length?
Posted By: oldotter Re: Pretty Nice 99T - 06/29/20
Yup. And the sights and the style of forearm and checking

different barrel lengths too.
Posted By: Calhoun Re: Pretty Nice 99T - 06/30/20
99R has a 24" barrel. The 99T and 99H were the only pre-WW2 models with 22" barrels in 300 Savage, I believe.
Posted By: wyo1895 Re: Pretty Nice 99T - 06/30/20
All calibers in the T's and H's had 20" barrels except for the ones chambered in 300 Savage. They were 22". The R's in 250-3000 and 303 had 22" barrels. The R's in 300 had 24" barrels.

Thanks.. I thought I'd put 300 Savage in my post, but forgot it. I'll fix it.

I looked was tempted because of the front sight, oh well
