Has everyone noticed that there isn’t much availability for .300 savage? Sure it’s a seasonal ammo in the sense that they only make runs of it but there’s not much in stock out there.

That's the very reason I reload .300. Eventually we'll have to make brass out of .308's. Sometime in the near future we're going to have to accept the fact that the .300 is an obsolete round and as such will be loaded less and less by the ammo manufacturers. First seasonally then biannually then small runs every 5 years then not at all. With luck hopefully we have at least another decade.

Cabela's web site has Remington 300 Savage 150gr for $34.99 on sale. Winchester 150gr for $35.99. Federal 150gr or 180gr for $36.99.

Seems like you can still get it.

I bought enough brass that I should not have to worry about it.

Yep, I have 300 rounds of factory ammo, half that in reloads and 1000 pieces of virgin brass. More than enough, considering I don't shoot a 300 Savage much, just hunt with it.

Graf's has Federal 180gr SP, Remington, Federal, and Hornady 150's, Federal and Hornady out of stock. They list a volume discount, but I guess you have to ask?

I visited with a guy who was married into the Hornady business.

Seems they rotate odd ball ammunition on a cycling basis. So it's feast or famine.

I think about every 5 years or so.

have a couple thousand rnds , been stocking up for yrs . seen all this coming some time ago.

with the way things are going no body will need hunting ammo in a couple years... the end is near..
Not as long as we have bullets and guns.. I am not giving up..

I reload for all my centerfire rifles. In regards to 300 Savage, I do have a 99R and two Remington 81's in the caliber, but don't (can't) hunt big game with them in my state. I do look on the shelves of outfits once in a while for what is stocked and it usually isn't very much. A handful of 150 and 180 grain SP's. It's rare to see it at gunshows in my area, but there haven't been any of those since last March, although there is several slated to be held this month, with more this fall.

I never see 300 Savage brass new or used on the shelves, always buy it online when I see one of the half dozen outfits I keep track of having a sale on it. Will buy a 100 rds off and on to add to the supply, same as I do 250 Savage which isn't seen much in my area either as loaded ammo or brass. Very rare to see at gunshows. None of my friends or shooting circle shoot 250 or 300 Savage, so I'm a minority with those calibers. I did resize some .308 brass a friend gave me once, but it was a PITA to trim the neck down with my Forester brass trimmer. A lot of hand cranks round and round, thought 'phooey' on this. Could have sawed off some of the excess, then trimmed, but I wasn't in that much of a starvation 300 Savage brass situation for all of that. Since then I bought a 'Little Crow' brass trimmer that is chucked in a hand drill that makes fast and accurate work of trimming for 300 Savage and other calibers. I use my bench drill press, works alot slicker. I love reloading and casting, but have always detested trimming with a passion.

Having .308 handstamp brass isn't a safety concern as I don't own or shoot any rifle chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62 mm. I mostly reload for 300 Savage using 300 Savage brass, but have the option of resizing .308 if needed. Have plenty of .308" 150 grain SP bullets on hand (and other weights) and have bullet molds and plenty of lead to cast with, so shortages here and there don't affect me much, although I don't like seeing them. 30/40 Krag is another caliber I reload for and shoot which brass isn't seen much of, rarity to see loaded ammo for sale. I watch the online sales for brass and get them when needed.

No shortage in northern Minnesota. Two gas stations and a hardware store near me have it. But I reload my own and don't buy it.

I've noticed if I to Mills Fleet Farm in Rochester or Cabela's in Owatonna in your state 'damnesia' (Minnesota) that there is a better selection of 300 Savage (and 250 Savage) ammo as you guys can hunt your deer and other big four legged critters with those calibers. Here in Iowa, nope, no bottle neck rifle or handgun cartridges allowed. In my area I think I'm the only one who hunts coyotes with a 250 Savage. Use a Model 77 Ruger topped with a Leupold 3x9. No problem getting 1" MOA with it with my 75-87 grain handloads. Have seen good selection of 300 Savage in Twin Cities also when I go there. Yet to buy any factory 250 or 300 Savage ammo, to pricey-get along fine with my reloads.

One of my favorite winter weekend activities (hobbies) is to browse regional gun shows. I find more fresh factory 300 and 250 Savage ammo there than I could ever shoot in a lifetime. $25-$30 a box for 300's $30-$35 for 250's although I did make a deal for 4 fresh green boxes of 100 grain cor-lokts for $100 this past winter before the Covid scare shut down the gun show circuit.

I've got more ammo than I could ever shoot and I didn't pay much for any of it.

I sent an email to Hornady on Monday asking if they were going to be making a run of the 300 Savage in the 150 grain Super Performance load. First response was that no run planned at this time. I sent second email asking if they planned to have a run of it before the fall hunting season. Second reply said nothing schedules but he said he certainly hoped they would.

That’s been my go to but it’s been hard to find online along with any .300 in the greater Houston area.

I have bought 5.56 mm ammo in the past from a place called SGAmmo, they're a reliable online company, know of a number of people who have bought there. I looked at their 300 Savage selection and they have some Federal and Winchester 300 Savage for sale, but it is in 200 round cases only. There is a online site called 'Ammoseek' that has alot of sites and outfits listed selling ammo of all caliber and manufacturer. I've never used it, but I know several persons that have used it to locate and buy ammo, especially at times when certain calibers are hard to find due to buying panics by the public.

22-250 brass can be expanded to 250 but it might be a real stretch to go to .300.
