this is the most extreme I've seen. You'd think they'd pick a pattern and stick to it.

That one looks like the toe was broken.
I think there is a lot of variation in all of the Savage stocks. Look at the differences in butt plate and grip cap fit. I think they did a lot of free hand work and no 2 are really that close on anything.

And after the exaggerated repair, a smaller butt plate off of a .22 or other make rifle, perhaps?

I see no reason you couldn't file the original buttplate to fit, but who knows?
it looks like a well done modification by someone who wanted it more " perchy"like as said above with the .22 Savage style stock with the rounded pistol grip horn. I don't know the model .
