The clip (magazine) loading model 99s

Other than the possibility of losing the magazine, which knowing me would be inevitable, is there anything not to like?

To a collector? They are made after 1960, and most of them have inferior pressed checkering... but try to find a factory 99 in 7mm08 or 22-250 and you're going to find a 99C. And it won't be cheap.

Similarly the 99CE's and 99 RMEF rifles are built on a 99C base, and both of those are very well done commemoratives that are highly sought after.

To a hunter, very few problems.

The clip fit and latch is a very positive mechanism, I have never experienced one that I thought would come out without intent. So, losing one seems unlikely. I found them very useful when hunting farm-land, dropping the clip and disarming the rifle where I'd need to walk on a road, or catch a ride back to my truck. They are not as elegant as the rotary magazine for sure, but they all come with a tang safety which is a more universal function for most riflemen

For me, the 99C's are the unglamorous model of the Savage 99 line. Nothing special about them. They have stamped steel internals and generally less than beautiful wood and checkering. Quality is not in the league as the pre-mill 99's. They are not as smooth functioning as the pre-mill 99's.

For me, they are a utility model with the tang safety being very nice for a left-handed shooter and the detachable magazine being loadable from the top or in the magazine by itself. For hunting, I like the detachable magazine feature. A very functional, fast handling, easy carry, and quick to point rifle.

If you want to build a rifle based on a cartridge the 99 was not designed for, the magazine model 99's are the easiest to convert and possibly more reliable feeding.

I had a 99C in 308. it was super accurate, most every Deer I shot with it were head shots up to 100 yds.. I never missed a head shot and always got my deer.. I sold it when I stopped hunting at 80 years old,,, I should of kept it.. no hunters left in my family. I have one grand son that might of liked it.. he is a x marine but not a hunter...he does shoot some.
