Just arrived this week from a fellow Campfire member. Made in 1950 and in very nice shape and a dandy scope to boot! I also ordered a replacement rear sight from another of our members. I have LOTS of brass, bullets (100gr Interlocks) and it loves factory Core Lockts so I stocked up on the as well. good week!

I have a few 250-3000s, all pre 1920, and when I get above 87gr they don't shoot well. I know this isn't uncommon, but do the newer pre-mils handle the heavier bullets better?

All premils had the same 1-14" twist rate. Maybe they got better later on with always hitting that 1-14" twist and had fewer slow twists, but they'll all have problems with longer 100gr bullets.

Looks like you found one in very good condition Jorge. An MOA shooter is creme in the coffee.

I bet that thing is a tack driver.

There are many examples of 1-14 250's that shoot core lokts extremely well. I have one rifle that will shoot 87 grain hot cores and 100 grain core lokts damn near in the same hole.

I think I am going to keep that one for now... wink

Have to measure twist mine vary from 1-13.5 to 1-14.5 the 13.5 shoots short 100 gr great the 14.5 not!

My first 250 is an R also, made in 1950. I'm glad yours like the CL's, mine loves them. This year I shot my WV spike in the eye, just to prove I could. Also shot a 150 pound pig in the eye and a 220 pound pig in the ear hole. those R's shoot straight.

So far so good gents as I mentioned. The 100gr Hornadys shoot as well, I'm just playing with different primers, brass etc, but it appears it likes Remington brass best.

I'm not disagreeing or anything, but would like to hear some insight into how specific brass manufacturer can shoot better or worse than others.

Probably different case volumes are having an effect.

Gotta wonder though, if it'll provide MOA accuracy with 100 grain CL's how well it might do with shorter lighter bullets. Might in actuality be a 1/2MOA rifle!

We've had 250 bullet weight conversation at least 1000x.

No 2 guns are the same.

Instead of finding the weight in grains that your 1-14 250 likes, what you really should be doing is figuring out the bullet length it likes, weight be damned....

Far as brass goes, in order to determine if your gun likes one better than the other, the only way to really do it is to eliminate every other variable. Case length, charge in terms of powder and weight, bullet, primer and OAL would all need to be exactly the same from one brass maker to the next to be able to find any statistical variability in accuracy attributed solely to case manufacturer. Temperature, wind drift and elevation could even be included as variables if you really wanted to get crazy. And there may be others I'm not thinking of.

That would be a difficult task, but not impossible

That makes sense if there is a noticeable difference in volume. I am one of those people who will adjust by 1/10th grain of powder and keep a chart of the most accurate load for a particular rifle ( although I admit for most applications I try to find a common denominator because of having so many chambered the same ). I haven't experienced, or maybe haven't noticed, too much of a difference between brass manufacturers. I try to stick with the same manufacturer but even when shooting mixed haven't noticed a big difference in accuracy between identical loads. Maybe this means I should pay more attention laugh

I noticed a definite improvement in the general accuracy of my .30-06's when I lucked into a few hundred pieces of Lapua brass, compared to the Federal and W-W brass that made up my "general use" stash. That stuff has very consistent case neck thicknesses, easily on par with the LC and FA Match brass that I hoard for "special occasion" use.

I've been working with a Browning single shot .223 that averages 1/2-5/8MOA with Federal brass and Berger bullets. A batch of as yet untried Lapua .223 brass has me hopeful for even better accuracy as its case neck thicknesses are crazy consistent too, better than the Federal stuff which ain't all that bad to begin with.

The devil's in the details.

Exactly. I think my deal is, I picked up reloading from my Dad. Some things I've questioned, somethings I haven't.
