I finally got around to making a short video showing the process to take a Savage 99 carrier apart. Hopefully it will help dispel many of the rumours and horror stories surrounding this magical component. It's actually a pretty simple (but brilliant) device and the scary folklore surrounding its internal workings is somewhat undeserved. Have a look and see what you think,

I hear doing that will invalidate your warranty. grin

Very good video, straightforward and easy to follow. Thanks!
outstanding!
Interesting---video makes what could appear complicated, uncomplicated. Good video. smile
Knowledge dispels fear, at least as it pertains to the Savage. Good job.
What year rifle did that carrier come out of?
Nicely done!

Several years ago, before You tube, I managed to get some foaming bore cleaner into the action on my 99 and let me assure you, foaming bore cleaner and brass are not compatible. sick It turns into a gooey green mess that locks up the action. Videos like yours would have saved me a lot of time and angst fixing it.

That particular one was from an 1899 built in 1899.
Very straight forward and easy to follow.

Great job!

This assumes one knows how to remove the carrier from the rifle. blush

That's correct but the basic rifle tear down info is already available from many other videos.
