New member here. I'm interested in all types of firearms, but my preference is for older guns of the working man category. I currently own a Savage 219B in 30-30 and a Utica made 219 that came into my possession with a 220 12 gauge barrel, but no rifle barrel.

Currently looking for a rifle barrel for that gun.

Recently purchased a Savage 99 in 300 Savage. I've been hunting with a Remington 722 chambered in 300 Savage for the past couple years very happy with the recoil/performance of that caliber. Hoping the 99 is a good shooter. If it is, I plan to hunt with it as well.
From one newbie to another, welcome!

Welcome aboard! I'm not a plank owner here myself, but certainly with my stripes across a number of gun forums; be they 'nuisance' stripes category!' smile

Congrats on being a Rem 722 owner! The 721 & 722 certainly a historic series and while some folks look down on them, they were and remain truly great, durable guns. Just not with the bells & whistles particularly of the 'techie' guns nowadays. My sole representation and a great rifle is a 721 in 300 H&H. Does the job for sure! Trigger is only issue if not replaced under safety recall.
Expect you'll enjoy that Savage! How about more info concerning exactly what you have there? Re your query, I understand you have a Savage Model 219B. Was it initially packaged as swap 30-30 rifle & 20 ga shotgun barrels? Can't help re your situation, but curious about such packages! I have a 219C. Neat, slim, naturally pointing SS rifle! Like it but for relatively poor trigger. Just assuming inherent in design.
Again, welcome aboard!
Best & Stay Safe!
John

Nice, Welcome!
300 Savage is a great cartridge!, And is too often under estimated then overlooked as obsolete. And you're not going to hear any of us compare or bad-mouth those silly creedmoor cartridges for being late to the table and just tag-alongs to the gentlemanly 300 Savage! Nope, not here!

Welcome, I like the 300 Savage also, beware, you buy one 99, you’ll buy more!!!

Thanks iskra. Great to meet a fellow 721/722 fan. I too have a 721 chambered in 300 H&H. Regarding the Savage 219, I can share what little I know. Some were sold as rifles only and some were sold as a package with a shotgun barrel. The rifle original rifle chamberings I'm aware of are 30-30, 22 Hornet, 25-20 and 32-20. I hope others will chime in with more detailed info on these handy little guns.

Thanks JeffG. The 300 Savage is gentlemanly indeed. I'm sitting a little taller in my chair now that you've described it as such!

Thanks Hanco. I'm taking your warning quite seriously. I have a weakness for sleekly attractive firearms.

Welcome Boots. Every time some one mentions a 219, especially in 22 Hornet, I post pics of the John Madole engraved 219. I'm not going to torture the guys again, so google "Engraved Savage 219'. If it ever goes to auction again, and I see it, it will come to live with me.

Thanks JoeMartin. I looked it up. That's a beautiful rifle.

Howdy from Iowa 'riverboots'! Does your handle have anything to do with any love affair with being on a river. Where I grew up and still do live, we have two rivers going through it, one of which went through my Dad's farm. Love those rivers, esp the one going through the farm. I'm a forever River Rat, lived on those rivers as a kid, still do. Fish, hunt, hike, plink, a dedicated Iowa River Rat am I.

Forgot to add snowmobiling, horseback riding, canoeing. About everything except river boat gambling. grin

welcome aboard! Ask any questions that come to mind. I recently told another new guy "The only dumb question is the one not asked". This was in response to him saying he didn't want to bore us with dumb questions.
I wrote "A Collector's Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle..." and am pretty knowledgeable on them but not so much on the other models but there are plenty of people here who know a lot about the other models. David Royal

Yes, Wyo1895 "wrote the book" on Savage 99s

And there's another book available by Garnett Stanch about the 219/220 Savage rifles. The author of that book is also open to new questions!

wyo1895, Thank you! Appreciate your kind offer to answer questions about the Savage 99. I look forward to owning a copy of your book some day.
