Picked up a F model in 358, nice shape, hope it shoots as well as the other 358 F I have. Hardly a mark on it, both made in 56 I believe.
Nice rifle!
I was expecting a pile of pigs when I opened your thread

Very nice. Don’t see them like that often.

Give him some time. Those hogs are toast.
Ha!

What could be better than a 358 F?
2 of them.

Maybe 3 ??? I sure like the F’s
As many as you can get and then it's not enough......
Congratulations on a fine rifle.
Nice! Hard to find anywhere, especially in that condition.
Congratulations on a fine rifle.
+1
I'm starting to feel sorry for those hogs...

Very nice and clean. The dilemma I see here is do you use it or does it become a safe queen? I saw the 358 on gunbroker that was unfired. Do you have fun with that rifle or put gloves on if you dare handle it? I have a 358 99R that sees little daylight. It sort of sucks. Takes the fun out of the party.
I will hunt with it, this one has been shot, not much. I can hunt a nice rifle with out jacking it up. I rarely put a mark on one, got mounts and scope, gotta find time to mount it, then get it sighted in. I need to load another 50, shot most of them up last season.
Congrats on a great find.
I finally found an unfired 99 358 at a recent show. First one I’ve seen in 25 years.
I am still smiling. A week later I picked up a pristine 1941 RS along with a M64.
What’s the big deal with the RS?
What’s the big deal with the RS?
The early version? Premier hunting model of the 99 at the time, very few made, very cool model with the studs/sling swivels/sling/peep sights.
Thanks
Mine has the Redfield RS, flat swivel studs and double lines forward of the front swivel stud. I thought the R and RS were some of most produced versions of the 99. Guess I got lucky. Mine still looks new.
Wish I could post pictures.
The 1950’s 99R had a lot made, the earlier version with the double lines just the opposite. Yours would be the 3rd variation of the 99RS with the Redfield, the first two had Lyman 30 1/2 tang sights. Have you tried uploading pics to the Image Gallery that’s below the Free Classifieds in the forum list? Not too bad to use, just tell us after you load them.
Dr_Lou, what caliber is the RS?

300 Savage, which is the reason I bought it, coupled with the fact it’s spectacular - probably 98%. I went to look at the M64 in .32 WS to partner with my 1953 Marlin 336 in .32 WS. I told the gentleman about the unfired 99 in 358 I had just found and that I needed a nice 99 in 300 Savage to keep it company. He disappeared for a few minutes, returning with a gorgeous 99 RS. I made an offer for both, he agreed and the rest is history. I hope he’s as happy as I am. Now to figure out how to post pictures using a URL.
If the URL is for a picture, just wrap it inside of [img] and [/img] tags.
