A good cartridge for it!

Got a model on that?

Barrel length?
Posted By: Fireball2 Re: A Savage Gopher Special? - 09/07/21
Mike it's a model 110 24" barrel.
Posted By: Fireball2 Re: A Savage Gopher Special? - 09/07/21
Gopher Special is a reference to a Winchester rifle.

special ordedr no sights on the winny

would need a better pict of the sight island.

A Gopher Special is a sightless M70 Fwt. marketed 1959-1963 by Gopher Shooting Supply of Fairbault, MN.
Winchester also sold special order, sightless M70 Fwts. during this time.

Yup! Mine's a 12FV with a 26" bull barrel. Makes targets like Roy's .303 legendary shot.

Eight or ten times

What is that, an S on the date stamp under the scope?

The 22-250 doesn't show up until 1966 catalog, but an S on the date stamp would make it a 1965 barrel. The 110's also lost their cut checkering in the 1966 catalog. So an early production 22-250 in 110 from late 1965?

And here you go...

The 1966 110MC in 22-250 was catalogued with a 24" barrel and NO sights. So it's perfectly legit. Except the cut checkering.. that probably makes it an uncommon beast, maybe like the cut checkered 284's? Course, the 1966 catalog might have come out in summer of 1966 and there's a lot of cut checkered 22-250's.. something for you to dig into. grin

not common in my experience Roy. I have a couple featherweight barrels that have well-tended dovetail fillers that have been reblued, nicely done, but You can still see the dovetail outline. I have two early 110's that don't appear to ever have had a serial number stamp..., Who knows what the "custom" shop might have been doing on Friday afternoons?!?

Very cool Roy! I like the older 110’s especially with cut checkering. Have you shot it yet?

Less than 1/2" with the Winchester 40 grain ammo, which I cannot find anywhere of course.
